There's a rather large one at the bottom of my road pushing about 20" DBH but that seems to be an outlier. Most of the ones I've seen were isolated backyard orchard-size trees.

What is a "keystone" weed tree? I assume a "weed tree" means an undesirable tree. Because they don't grow straight?

I love mulberry, it is a treat for me and I am going today to collect a tree on my land that fell in a storm.

As for the nature lover part, birds, for sure, love a mulberry tree!

One time I was in Natchez, MS and on a Mississippi riverbank bluff, my gosh, there were a bazillion little trees and it sure looked like mulberry to me by the leaf shape. If I ever go back, I am going to figure out if it is mulberry as I couldn't believe it would be that many. Almost as thick as kudzu vines, lol. And that dang vine sure loves Mississippi. I wonder if they have controlled it by now, it was quite an invasive nuisance many years ago. I think it started with erosion control but got out of hand!

Oh yeah, Brad, congrats, great sale!

Yes the seem to grow everywhere. Don't recall ever seeing a straight one. The birds love the berries and the deer here eat all the leaves they can reach.

And to try and clarify, the Keystone comment is because we are in the Keystone state. I love mulberry as well. Wish I could hoard more.

White mulberry is an invasive species imported from and native to Asia. White mulberry/Asian/Russian mulberry can be a pioneer species with drought tolerance.
Pretty sure red mulberry is the only mulberry native to North America
Like cherry trees, there's many cultivars, some being clones.

Full cord is 4'x4'x8' so 128 cubic feet.
I cut my wood 16" so three rows deep. 24" long splits would be two rows. The stack pictured is just over a half cord at 5'x10'

about what I thought. They sell by what some call a “Rick” here. No one besides me cuts anything longer than 18”. Seemed the prices I see on here were cheap if that was two of our ricks. Makes more sense. Thank you.

When you find one, there are probably others around...the birds and critters love the berries and do a great job of spreading a bazillion lil seeds all around the area when the berries ripen...

    Glad to help! :handshake:

Its my understanding your "rick" is the same as a "face" cord around here...1/3 of a cord.

Most ive seen have been while im driving. Single trees though. My mom had one sprout in her backyard next to the shed back in the 1980's. As it got bigger and the fruit came out you couldnt walk near it as the ground was covered with the berries.
Sold her house a few years ago. (shes 96 and in a home) and i wonder if the new owners cut it down.

That’s what I am thinking now too. So a cord here would go for 350-375 I guess. Varies. Ricks range from 65-125 and probably average 80. When I do sell I do 60-70 delivered and stacked. That said , really only sell to friends and the like and I enjoy it so not trying to make money.

My half cord of 16" splits is $140 delivered within ten miles. Rarely sell a face cord and dont advertise any for sale. My F150 holds a half cord so i try to limit sales to such, although i have done a few full cords the last couple years.
