My first wood stove...a long time coming

My wife and I have owned a piece of property in the country for a few years now. Finally built our place this year (with an extra large man cave to boot).

We got hit by covid-related delays on windows and siding...and delays with all the trades who are super busy.

But...we're in the final stags now. Have slept there the last two weekends and are doing some finish work ourselves (kitchen install, trim work)

Major highlight this weekend was the woodstove installation (by pros, not me). I've been Pine-ing for a stove for YEARS. Finally got my own and fired it up. Just a couple small fires to make sure not to crack the bricks. Some dried ash branches etc.

I've been busy with work and construction planning that I haven't been able to hoard any firewood, let alone season it. So this year...gotta buy it in (the shame!).

Oh yeah, it's a Pacific Energy Neo 1.6. Our place is 1200 square feet and we have infloor radiant heating so should be fine.

 

Nice stove. Yes, you may have to buy but you do what you have to do.

 

Congrats on the stove. May it bring you many years of heat and relaxation. I had a Pacific Energy Summit insert in my old house. Loved it and miss it. Cant say a bad thing about it. Bought new and used for ten years.

Time to bget hoarding now!

Congratulations thats a nice stove. When you get some down time start getting some wood for next year. Cherry and soft. Maple will season quickly especially if covered.

Those are some thick jambs on the windows....or is it just a narrow window? I don't know of anyone building with 8" walls yet......

If you put 2 inches of solid insulation on the outside wall the window's RO end up getting extended out to match the insulation.

 

The outside is covered with corrugated steel. Making windows flush with exterior resulted in a gap between jambs and the drywall. So builder put 1” or so strips to make flush then covered with a veneer like surface. We’re keeping the natural color. Just gonna seal it.

 

Yeah. Have pretty much all the varieties I want. Mostly cherry, locust, oak in the primo stuff.

 

Thanks. I’m not gonna be picky my first year. Gonna take down some poplar. Also have some standing dead ash. Good amount of cherry. Not much maple though.
The longer drying stuff I have is oak and locust. Will start building my supply of those for future years.

 

Ah! Thats why the window jambs look so deep!

They look deeper than your standard 6" jamb extension is why I asked.
