I went by WalMart this morning on my way to HD. They had a large pile of MWP's stacked up out front with $207/Ton spray painted on them. Up until now, all the pricing in this area was around $239. Is this an indicator of future prices?

ah....no....if these will float your wagon, go for it....I imagine once they are sold, it's back to $239...everything I see, prices are just a tad this season everywhere in NE. Trucking is absolutely harder to get in some of the outlining regions and business over all for the vast majority of the dealers in NE is off to a great start. I know in MA next weekend they have their "no sales tax" weekend. Pellets in all of NE aren't taxed, but many people either don't know that or forget ...but it's usually a really good weekend for stove shops...heavy traffic and lots of sales

Wally world just may have gotten some sort of deal or had too much for the space...who knows what the reason is, but if you want to buy MWP pellets and get to that store (I don't even which one Subsailor is talking about) ...hurry, I bet it doesn't last long....just my $.02 worth.

Not here. Lowes and Menards are at around $250/ton, which is way up. Tractor Supply is at $200/ton, which is down. Fortunately I have 5 tons of Somersets, so I'm set. Just getting around to getting some corn in, and I'll be set.

Last year Walmart came in early with a similar price and it stayed that way until after Feb. HD and TSC followed in step. Lowes stayed higher. Location Westerville and Augusta Maine. $207/ ton in Augusta and $209/ton in waterville.
    HD does price match.

I heard from an HD sales rep that we might see $229 or even $219/ton once the season starts. But so far it hasn't been confirmed. $239 is what I am seeing at the local boxes and $229 at a pellet house.

Same at our HD, but walmart just started out this week. HD was at that same price point last year until the started cranking up for their fall season.

I think waiting a bit until the war starts can't hurt. I doubt the current $239 box price will go up. Maybe it will come down? Don't know for sure. But we have seen some drop once the war starts in the past. Gonna need to wait and see IMHO.

I can say this because I got my 2 tons from TSC @$214/ton and can afford too. Not sure I would if I wasn't already full.

I'm sitting on a tad over 2 tons but only 21 bags of it are shoulder stuff. I'm getting a little itchy. Especially now that I see WalMart, TSC and several feed stores with their supplies proudly displayed. I get my best pricing at HD with the veteran's discount and free shipping for 3 tons or more (I hope this is still valid), so I need to wait a little longer. I can always grab a few bags if I need to.

Not all stores in my area have them displayed yet. I had to ask for pricing. If you see something in the $229 price range? I might jump on it.

Don't go by what I say. Been wrong many a time before. Our stores don't go full on until mid September early October. I have seen Lowes hold their prices up around $299 while HD has em lower(but not always at the lowest price yet!).

What have they done in previous season in you area?

I'm not sure what HD has done in the past. I was a big burner of GT until Lowes jacked the price and they did that in December and I already had my supply for the year so it's only been the last couple of years that I've been buying at HD. It seems that last year they had them out already but I may be wrong.

I'll get a good supply of MWP, then go hunting for other kinds. Now that I own a non fussy stove I can poke around without worrying about the heat. That is the fun part!

I honestly don't think the price will go up any at the box's. $239 should be the high until spring.

I jumped at the $214/ton TSC deal as I didn't think I would see anything lower. I might have held back if all I could find was $239.

Let me guess, you travel all the way across town to save $.05 on 10 gallons of gas or buy the day old bread to save $.50.....save your comments....I know most of you do it....just cause you can and it's more the hunt of the find, than the actual catch....sort of like catch and release fishing.... I get it.

    Spending money to save money?

Example: Driving 15 miles to save $0.10 a gallon. You buy 10 gallons and save a whole Buck($1.00). Not realizing you spent $3.50 to save it! Car gets 30 miles to the gallon and you travels 15 miles each way for a total of 30 miles round trip. Car used approx. 1 gallon on the trip @$3.50 a gallon!

Really not the same with pellets as most of us save more than the break even amount. And most have stoves that can do the dance with the lesser brands and still make it worth it. I won't buy just any box store brand to save a dollar. It has to be worthy of at least a mid grade. Example: Lowes selling Inferno's for the same dollar as TSC selling AWF. You can bet on my stuff not coming from Lowes!! BTW, TSC is closer to my house than Lowes, So I even saved on gas to get em home!!:p

I am more concerned about my cost to heat my home. The amount of my income is fixed. ( retired) If one brand heats my home with 5 tons, @ $207/ton. And another brand heats my home 4.5 tons @$300/ton. Factor in it is the same amount of work to get. And that my stove doesn't soil up with either, then yes yes yes, I am going with the one that saves me the most. But I won't brag about too much as it is as simple to figure out as not walking into a glass door. Not as much about being frugal as it is being aware of what is going on. I get a lot of calls telling me to buy their stuff that they think is better. Not better if it cost a third more but is only 5 percent better.

For some, it's the thrill of the chase. We all have hobbies that might be intended to save money, but then do things with that hobby that make it cost money unnecessarily. Who said that the process of keeping your family warm had to be an inherently logical process?:p

When I first got my stove, I stopped in every store we passed that might have had pellets. You know...just in case. Anyway, I burned at least 17 different pellets in my first three years of burning, and have seen most types that will show up in the area.

If I see pellets at HD for 219 or 229 this year I will be buying as I use them for sure, not touching the 4 tons I gave now. I will have 4 tons bunkered for next year. You can book it
