I know one of those tree nerds...he works at the paper mill in/near Appleton (Kimberly Clark?) he is a member on that other site...I actually went to see him when I came up there to pick up my Kuuma a few years back there...I brought them some fresh goodies from a local manufacturer (Smuckers) and they sent me home with a fresh bag of premium paper products (not kidding)

When did they pass that stupid rule?? I was trained white birch, poplar, silver maple = soft Ash, oak, hickory yellow birch, sugar maple = hard
That was the old rule (that I quoted earlier) the more modern/advanced version is slightly more complicated than all that...more along the lines of how your local mills look at the subject now...like you and Horkn have said. What is the Difference Between Hardwood and Softwood?

Yep, most threads here derail pretty fast. Part of the reason it's so enjoyable. Reminds of conversations around my family. The subject changes fast & you better keep up lol.

Very true! All our family conversations sound like we all hate each other with all the sarcasm, poking fun and subject changes. My step daughter was messaging me this morning... We don't use any sarcasm or anything in our family... she's so use to me being a smart a$$ and she has learned it well so she can give it right back just as fast as I can.
That's a good point...something that I've never thought of before...its exactly like being a a big family gathering...6 different conversations going on at once, and if you are like me, I'm trying to listen in on 4, and actively participate in at least 2 of them!
