I had 8 dead ash trees on my property that I was chasing guys to drop them. After almost 2 years of no shows, no answers or responses after an estimate, I finally had a guy show up. He rigged every tree, and dropped them safely. Unfortunately the biggest one that I thought I would get the most firewood out of was rotted 7 feet up from base. The trees shattered as they hit the ground, as I knew they would. It still kind of hurts shelling out 1100 bucks to do them, but I can't afford to get hurt away from work. Now for the cleanup work. I will use all the smaller branches to burn out the bigger stumps that are in the area I want to clear out.
Dem standin dead ash bust like grannie's fine crystal when dey hits da ground. $1100 is painful but not as painful as a a limb crashing down on yor head. Money well spent in my opinion. If it makes you feel better, to have a real tree service drop 9 trees here would cost you at least $4K.
8 trees for $1100 sounds like a reasonable deal to me. Had you done it yourself and things took a turn for the worse, the ambulance ride alone would’ve been that much. You never know for sure how rotted they are until they’re down. Judging by the trunk picture I’d say you made the right call.
Yep, agree. And then to be out of work without compensation because it didn't happen at work would probably cause me to lose everything.
Did he have other workers? Heavy equipment or no? How long did it take him? Do you think he is insured in case of accident? I have several needing downed and I'd gladly pay that price.
Wow. glad to see them on the ground and all's well. One more example of why we need to keep our eyes open to see the condition of trees before they get too bad.

Better safe than sorry. I have done the same with getting a pro in to drop trees. Helps to do all the clean up work yourself, keeps cost down.
Not bad neighbor paid that much for one pine.. 8’ up it turned into 3 stems each more than 14” in diameter. One leaned towards house, one his shop, and the last his well head
Smart more hiring a pro. Scary rot on that biggun. Typical of dead ones after several years dead. Quite a mess to clean up but saved you money.
I'm surprised that the guy climbed these things. Around here, nobody will climb a dead ash. It's simply too dangerous. 1100 isn't bad for what you had done.
Hey, that's nothing, you should have seen the little pecker pole EAB ash that Scotty Overkill climbed at walt s GTG a couple months back!
He had one other guy with him. No heavy equipment. It took about 2 hours. I didn't ask to see any insurance documents, but it said insured on his card.
