    I don't think I realized that it was illegal to have large sums of cash that were obtained legally. This whole concept is running on the guilty until proven innocent plan.

    I seem to remember hearing whispers a long time ago about CIA agents being tangled in drug smuggling throughout Central and South America. Something about an agent even being killed in New Orleans in a related incident...

    It's just Thuggery. With knowledge and forethot they just flat STOLE that guys money. They used almost every trick they had to steal it.
    Just thugs , using our tax dollars to steal his money.
    It's a top down problem.

    Yes, but people don't keep their MOUTHS SHUT!!! One of the series of questions a cop asks you is; Where you going, where did you come from, do you have any guns in the car, do you have any cash in the car, do you live in the state of your drivers license and so on! You DO NOT NEED TO ANSWER ANY OF THOSE THINGS!!! No law says you have too! Remember, you have the right to remain silent and ANYTHING you say can and will be used AGAINST you!

    Years ago you couldn't even get your property or cash back from these seizures, even if acquitted in court. There was a huge stink about some places that were just seizing desirable properties, and using this type of action against people they didn't like (for personal or political reasons). They had no recourse and lawsuits dragged thru the courts for years.

    One time I got stopped at 0 dark thirty on my way to work. He asked where I was going, I said to work. He asked where that was at and I just pointed down the road, and said "that way". He didn't push it, and quit asking me stupid questions. He had stopped me bogusly anyway since I wasn't speeding or anything else (I was in the center of a smallish town that I knew cops kept staked out at all hours). He said he thought my registration sticker was outdated (yeah, because you can see that when it is pitch black outside and you are looking from the side of the car). He and I both knew he stopped me to see if he could get an easy DUI charge.

    Bobby Seal. I read about it in an article decades ago. Tom Cruise did a movie on it. A good one to watch. I think Dennis Hopper portrayed him in another film.
