One of the biggest mistakes I see new people to hand filing make. Is not knowing when to grab a New file.
Files are wear items , when they stop cutting well. Get out a new file !!!!!!!

If, you rock a chain . Grab an old file to get started on a rocked tooth. Or better yet. Grind it. If you have a Dremil set up for chainsaw cutting teeth. Use that to get away from the rocked part.
The part of the cutter that hit the rock can be glass hard and will destroy a good file.
Once you get the tooth reshaped. It will probably file again without wrecking the file.

    Wouldsplitter and Chud like this.

The trick is to look at the arrow of direction pushing away from you AND the line across the tool is parallel with the bar and chain. It’s easy to have it upside down till you’ve gotten used to setting it on the bar.

    Thank you.

I'll see if I can find a you tube video . I turned it every way I could think to. The depth guage file did not set correctly on the depth guage. Round file didn't set in the cutters correctly.
It's not like I need it. But would like to know how it works.
