Took the dog out to do his business. The light breeze is blowing the chimney smoke towards our front yard. That smell of my well seasoned red oak burning is wonderful, relaxing and almost intoxicating. A peaceful night to you all.
What is this “Oak” of which you speak???? We are solidly in Conifer Country, Douglas Fir being our “Premium “ Firewood, lots of White Fir around. Plentiful Cedar for kindling, although the old RR ties soaked in used motor oil, works very well for getting the hunks of old tires burning too. I do Love the smell of Lodgepole on an open fire. Nothing smells as Good as a trailer load of Fresh cut D Fir or Cedar, the neighbors have even commented on how good a trailer load of fresh cut wood smells, but they are much less appreciative of the RR Ties and old tires in the stove Doug
Same to you Buck. The smell of burning oak is much better than the smell of the dog doing his business!
Like I said earlier, I love the smell of red oak burning. But last week I cut my first wood this season, nice fresh healthy white oak. The aroma of it brought back fond memories of cutting wood last season, but my best memory from cutting white oak was the aroma of a good kentucky bourbon. That played a large part of my choice of beverage that night, Woodford Reserve Bourbon.
Just stacked a couple cords. The green split Red Oak puts off quite an aroma. Some times it’s good. And some times it’s a bit much.
