I've gotten some wood that looks exactly like that magnolia and was curious what it was. It is noticeably lighter than everything else. Mine also had that gray look to it. Thanks!

I can't answer that first question...... I do work in a control room, so it is easy work, most of the time. Ot does feel good to get outside when I get home...
We got a little more done the week of Thanksgiving and this week so far. Goat Town Firewood hopes y'all had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving. My cousin's wife works for a oil/gas distributor. She let us know they were cleaning up their yard and had some totes if we wanted them. We got 8 of the tall (330 gal, I think) totes. I got off nite shift Tuesday morning, so we got 2 loads done that day. I forgot to of the first load, just loaded if from different sheds. A regular BBQ customer got a 4 species mix of hickory, cherry, pecan and oak. A coworker got the afternoon load...oak and hickory... Working up more of the tree service wood...had to cull a good bit of this... center rot... Got 2 more loads done on Wednesday.. 1st load was white oak and hickory, with some really dry kindling sticks included...we stacked in in their shed. 2nd load that day was firepit/campfire grade... Had to work 7AM-7PM for 4 days after Thanksgiving, so didn't see the woodyard. Shift change to nites yesterday, so we were able to move more wood to the processing area and start on a 1+ cord trailer load. Found a couple more big ones...got 2-18" long rounds from each, noodled those in half. And some regular size logs... Happy cutting, y'all...
Thanks, we burn alot like that ourselves. It had some shorts/longs in it, sap edge was a bit punky, some center rot. We also sold a hunting camp a small trailer and his pickup loaded with wood like that. They came and picked it up...he sent me a picture later that night, said it was burning good...
Hey buddy, thanks...... I guess you could say we are going to have 3 grades for now. Smoking/BBQ wood...cherry, pecan, hickory or oak Clean firewood...oak or maybe hickory...no punk or center rot/hollow logs Campfire/firepit...would have punky sapwood, some center rot, hollow logs where the rim isn't very thick or termites have been, big knots/uglies...
Got those 2 big chunks bucked and noodled in half, Tuesday. Wednesday morning, after I got off work, was nice and cool, so we got those 8 halves split and loaded...all of this, 2+ rows, over 1/3 cord came from the 2 big short logs...yes, there is some more curly oak on this load... Then we got the next biggest log bucked, it is the 1 in the grapple above... It should make some beautiful splits And 9' long...the 'Bota was grunting... This is more of the willow oak, with 1 red oak log too. Might be enough to finish the load... We'll see what today brings. May GOD pour out HIS blessings on y'all, too.
After my hunny got the splits stacked from the 4 big rounds, it was a good 2 1/2 rows... I was able to roll the 3 up the ramps...the other 2 had a big knot, so used the tractor to set them on the splitter Those 5 rounds turned out a nice pile too. Made a row and 1/2. The Wood Wolverine TurboDiesel This tree had some curly and burl pieces too. I saved this for my friend that makes pens and knives... After that was done, got the forked log and a few smaller ones bucked. That's on the menu for today.
Amazing how much wood comes from one big round. What happened to the vertical splitter for big rounds Jeff?
We still have it. I found I can handle up to about 28-30" rounds whole on the horizontal splitter. And we have only had a few big ones at a time. And the area where we had done most of the splitting since August, not much room for both. I like the wedge better on the horizontal splitter. It will slice knots and is 3x faster. We still have some 44-45" post oak that we will use the vertical on...
We got the log with the crotch split this morning. Found some more amazing grain patterns in it. Might call it flame oak??? I saved these pieces for my woodworking friend... We got the trailer load finished and delivered.
Saturday morning, after work, we got the pickup load split and delivered... Finally caught up on orders, might have a firepit/campfire load to do at the end of the month. That's fine, need some time to do some maintenance, change oil and fix a leaking cylinder seal in the splitter I have some days off and vacation days coming up...might even haul some logs a friend said we could have...
