I read the description. Pretty cool when they mentioned chaulk lowlands... I know what that is, as we live in the Kaolin belt here in GA...
Yeah it’s no fun sitting on the cold ground doing that sort of thing. I got it done just as the snow squalls were coming down hard. I had to replace the front rotors as well as the pads, as they looked original to the truck. The way it’s designed on my Chevy Colorado, the rotors are bolted to the wheel hubs, but to get the rotors off I had to remove the hubs from the CV axle first. It ended up being a minor headache. I tried to use a puller once the bolts were out but everything was rusted pretty solid. No amount of beating on the back of the old rotors with a sledgehammer was driving the hub off. So I looked it up on YouTube and someone suggested putting a 2x4 between the frame and the rotor, starting the truck and turning the steering wheel. That turned out to be the path of least resistance and I was able to pop the hubs off. Luckily a couple years back a buddy of mine gave me a brand new set of slotted brake rotors (he used to have the exact same truck but never put them on due to not wanting to go through all the trouble) Anyway all I had to buy were the pads which were around $50, and time wise it cost me about 3 hours to do the entire job. I don’t even want to know what it would’ve cost had I brought it to a mechanic.
I bought a Harbor Freight 10 ton hydraulic puller a few years back. I use it on rotors and brake drums too (brake drums because I'm lazy about backing off brake shoes. It will remove any rotor with 3 pumps. It it don't remove it in one piece it splits it in two pieces. Far as ums are concerned, 3 pumps and everything comes off. Drums, shoes, springs, everything. I use it on any pull job I have. Best puller I ever bought. Quick and easy.
On that truck the rotor bolts to the backside of the hub/brg assy. You gotta knock the brg out to change them. No issue unless the brg is corroded into the steer knuckle.
WOW. Did you clean up and grease the caliper pistons and slider pins ? I had to replace a caliper on my f350 this summer. But I could have gotten by with new shoes and shining up the slider pins. IF I knew then what I know now. But, that was on an 80° day . I gotta build a garage ! Wind came up, blowing 20 or more. Temp came up to 16 below ambient. Cleaned another half pail of ashes out of the stove first thing this morning. Now I have it where I'm getting on a routine schedule for ash clean out. I can hold more wood in the stove. Black spruce doing the day shift.
44, cloudy, breezy outside today. Still burning soft maple. First time I've ever burned a large amount of this stuff....it is underwhelming.
Seems a warm year so far. Gets 30s-40s at night, Not so bad in the day. I’m 1/6 cord of oak in so far. The house is a little cooler than usual at 68. That’s without a fire in many days. Just isn’t worth it so far- I put on a hoodie and call it good.
Warmed up to -10 wind still blowing. Still burning black spruce. Edited at 10:25 pm Will be loading the stove with Aspen for the overnight soon.
Cannot stare at that picture to long I will fall asleep JB 27 here this morning Locust slabwood in the heater
25 out right now, loaded the OWB up with basswood this morning, calling for 37 today and almost 50 tomorrow
A good bit of snow overnight (maybe 5") but only dropped to 31 overnight so it will probably melt by tonight. It was a fluffy snow so that melts fast.
