I like your old C ,I had a 1942 B for several years but have since moved up to a 1985 John Deere. I didn't have to worry about someone steeling the old B for I was the only one that knew the combination to get it started. If you didn't get things just right it would be flooded. I carried four fresh plugs and many times had to change plugs in the woods after loading the trailer so I could get home
Walt my A-C C is a very good runner and as reliable as anything I got, but that's a good story you tell. I had a 1986 JD 750 and gave it to my son about 3 years ago and bought a Kubota, the JD was/is a very good worker.
Both mine are older but don't look the part... Kubota's are timeless, other than the faded paint. tell everyone it's 'Mary KAY PINK....
J. Dirt those are some mighty fine tractors, I am not familiar with the 37 but I like it..thanks for sharing the pics..
I’ve got to go back in the archives I had some pictures skidding an ash log. She’s #191 of roughly 300 built and it was my great grandads.
I need to get some pics of my dads old MiniMo...although I'm not sure its done yet...might still be under a pile o crap in the shop and he has a Graham Bradley or two also...plus the Ford 601 gas, 801 diesel, Case 910, and a David Brown 1200 (IIRC) oh and I think there is still a Farmall or two around from my mom's home farm. I don't recall what model it was, but when I was a kid dad had an old Ford diesel that would blow sparks when you made 'er grunt after dark...always liked riding along to see that as a kid...that one got traded off for the DB1200...
I can't say for certain as my dad passed, but growing we. had a 1950ish Allis Chalmers. Looks like a 1954 B. Unfortunately my dad got rid of it to a friend. When I inquired about it, it had been sold to another person. My dad and my uncle used that tractor on an 11 acre nursery. It was the first thing I learned to drive around the age of 10. One story that always sticks with me is my dad telling my about the year he planted buckwheat. When it came time to plow it under, the Allis Chalmers plowed it under slick as snot. He words not mine. The land ended up in my parents name, and they sold it while I was in the Navy. I wish they hadn't done that. By then the nursery was no more. In college I sold 10 of abbreviates to a friend of the family in landscaping. He told me I had to do the work and wouldn't help. My cousin and I talk often of our memories.
I don't have any old tractors but worked with several when I was growing up. I remember when our big tractor was a John Deere A. I don't remember the year but was from before 1940. Second tractoe was also a John Deere H. Then came the real nice modern Allis Chalmers WD. Still had a magneto and hand crank. It was a joy later to work with a AC WD45 and it even had electric start! Then I also remember our first tractor with power steering (AC diesel but don't remember the number). The first time I got to drive it was discing a freshly plowed field. Wow! Simply amazing. Her is my grandfather's first tractor. A 1920Moline. Notice the plow under the tractor.
First pic is 1948 ford 8n, Second pic is a 1974 ford 2000. Third pic is a 1976 ford 555. All still run good and they all get used.
My Great-Grandfather was a Massey-Harris fella. We suspect this one was his, but even if not, it's just like it. Snapped this photo just before dragging it back into the shed. It's the first time it's seen daylight in decades. My Grandfather kept a few old Massey's around, a 33, a 44, and this one. I was pretty sure he had a Pony at one point as well. Unfortunately, they've all sat quietly in the dark for years, so not running. But maybe one day soon we'll hear 'em roar again. Problem is, as much as Dad and I enjoy spending time with them, we both live hundreds of miles away. So progress is pretty slow!
First tractor I drove was when my dad purchased a AC WD45. Had to drive it 15 miles back to town when he purchased it. Later he picked up a Ford 8n with loader. No hydraulics for dumping just a release. We move a lot of snow with it. This JD was my uncle's that my dad got after he passed. He is giving it to me so it could see firewood duty someday, just not sure it will fit in the backyard.
