For Christmas present for WWW. He's asked for a couple years but it's not happened so biting the bullet this year. He wants a 100' RUBBER hose and a retractable reel to mount on garage rafters (pneumatic, not manual crank). The prices on reels vary wildly, by 100's of dollars. Thanks for any insight.
Didn't know they made a 100 foot retracting reel. I bet it's not cheap if there is one. I have a 50 foot one from Harbor Freight never had an issue with it. HF is having everything in store t 10% off this weekend. 15% if you have an ITC membership. I'm a HF nut. I like good tools but I also like good prices. HF has some good tools and a lot of junk too. I void the junk like a bad cold. Just pulled another Elk draw point in your state the other day. May be visiting next fall....
Thank you and nice to meet you, cool on the Elk point, what unit? Agree, I can find 50', but the 100' reels vary in price, makes me wonder if there's disadvantages to the 100' reel or something. He wants to be able to the end of the house or out around the garage to a flat tire. It would be awesome, but if the less expensive 100' reels are not a good idea he can take out the pancake compressor with vinyl hose instead of course, but what a time saver to have the set up he wants. The rubber hose for Christmas is for sure, the vinyl one is always extremely stiff in the weather out here. But, it depends on what reel I find lol.
Reelcraft is the only one I feel is worth a darn. I think we have at least a dozen probably more some pushing 30+ years old and other than hose replacements nothing has been done to them. In my opinion 100' is too long for a spring reel, the 50' ones are nice but for a 100' I'd vote motor driven.
100 ft is a lot of hose for a garage. A 50ft hose mounted in the middle of the garage should reach anywhere in a 80x80 garage. How far outside does he want to reach? Maybe 2 hoses would be better?
Thanks! 2 hoses, hook them together like putting hoses together to the sprinkler on the far side of the yard?
He worked at a full service gas station/auto repair when we were in college, they had a commercial one, guessing that's what he's wishing for except that does not fit into our budget.....
How far from the garage does he need to reach? I was thinking 2 separate hoses if he has 2 areas to reach. One in the center of the garage. One near the front of the garage or outside.
Hard pipe it in BIP (black iron pipe) add quick release receivers in few strategic spots only get 25 foot of hose Or copper if cheaper/easier
Buy him an aluminum porta tank, that will fill a tire. Harbor Freight has them in steel and aluminum. 50 foot max because the cfm at the business end will be very low with a 100 foot air hose. General draw points, unit is dependent on the outfitter and the finances I have. I typically spend between 7 and 15 grand on a hunt depending on the animal, the location and the success rate and I can afford it. I play the draw points game in a couple states, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nebraska, Maine and Colorado. Did a nice Mule Deer hunt in Northern Nebraska last year, he's hanging on the wall and so are a few others. I donated the meat to the local shelter, rarely bring it home, just the mount. Nothing this year, I have other stuff going on and the freezer is full anyway. Hunting is 'vacation for me and my buddies. Been doing it for a while now and we fly in and rent an SUV. One of the guys I hunt with is a pilot and owns a Beechcraft Turbo Prop and we take it. Rich man's hobby but it's fun. Not wealthy but I've invested wisely over the years and now I'm enjoying the fruits of my investments. If I want deer, we own over 100 acres of woodland in northern Michigan and it's loaded with deer. I prefer Elk however. Bear aint bad either. Have a nice bear rug on the bedroom floor from a Canadian hunt.
I do it the hard pipe way except definitely recommend galvanized over black. The cost increase is minimal and the reduction in contamination is definitely beneficial. After close to 30 years of use our air is as clean as day one.
My entire farm shop is in black iron with drops, WOG valves and condensate drains. I run a Sullair screw compressor with a QP Quincy as a backup and I usually use a 25 foot hose unless I go outside, the I unreel the 50' wind up hose reel. Black iron is the only way to go if you consistently run over 150 psi like I do.
Galvanized can flake and screw up tools.. biggest problem with BIP is water or moisture in air couple collectors should solve it
Seen the aftermath of a home shop where the guy used plastic pipe and it exploded. Tore everything up including the guy. My Sullair has a dryer on it. I get very little moisture. All the main runs are 1.5" ID with 1" drops. I just happen to own a Rigid pipe threader so I bought mill lengths and did all the threading and cutting myself. The expensive part was all the fittings, not the pipe.
So move the compressor from one hose reel to the other? Or can 2 50's be connected together to form 100' ?
He can do PEX and copper (I can too) but I don't know how to work with black or galvanized pipe. Canadian border VT , how does one seal BIP fittings to be air tight? But, we have a couple PEX tools here... Quad runner and my Blazer hopefully would be fine with PEX, as well as nail gun or sander etc., but both our pickups are 3/4 ton and use higher pounds.
BIP requires a pipe threading machine. I bet hubby knows some one that has one.. I’m assuming his goal in this as he wants to be able to use air tools at various parts of the garage and yard. I’m trying to look for pictures to explain it better. Maybe TurboDiesel can find some.. What’s max PSI he wants if ya don’t know a pic of compressor would work my garage will have BIP with Drops far easier.. Probably $200 with price increases at most Why do bigger trucks needs mor air??
Truck tires more air pressure? I don't know.... Just that quad tire is very little, blazer is something like 30's, but our pick ups are a lot higher, I had to buy a new tire gauge because the car/blazer did not go high enough. Does tire rating E make a difference?
