This is an exaggeration, you will have 1 or 2 cold starts in October and 1 or 2 in April and then open windows.. but 5 matches not just one
Well it’s currently 44* and sunny stove is running and 2 outside doors are wide open .. house is 74.. will not fill stove til after sunset…. Have not used a match in November
So I have some more pics here but not as many as I would have liked. I got a little distracted. I got the stove on the deck without a hitch. Actually the whole operating went off without a hitch. used the dingo to lift the stove off the pallet. Had a helper spotting for me
I forgot to take any pics of the stove wrapped in a blanket with the piano dollies installed. Some of that was because of the rain we were dealing with. I was hustling to get the stove in the house out of the weather. My brother in law Jeff and I were able to lift the stove up the 8” step from the deck into the house. Dennis did a great job delegating and lending moral support. Seriously he did more today than he probably knows. He was integral in figuring out the stove pipe as the Drolet was quite a bit lower to the ground than the Ideal Steel! Jeff on the right and many of you already know that’s Dennis on the left. The stove came through the sliding glass door here. And the stove in its final resting place. The installation really was a piece of cake. The dingo did most of the heavy lifting and the piano dollies did the rest. We had the stoves second small seasoning fire with the wood you see in the picture and the house is still 70 degrees 7 hours later. I’m already in love with it!
Glad to see it was a successs... Congrats Brother... Good to see Dennis lendiing moral support... sometimes that's part of the process...
Well I’ve been pretty happy with it so far. Upgrade in almost every aspect over the old Drolet. I’ve been keeping the house at a pretty even 73-75 degrees. No 20-30 degree temp swings between overnights like before. I’m sure things will only get better as I learn how best to run the stove, but so far it’s been great.
Oh man, that would never fly around here...temp drops 5-6* and the squawking starts! Glad to hear its Like you said, it will only get better as you become a better operator of it...
If anything the complaint has been the opposite. The other night I loaded it right up with about 5-6 splits on a bed of orange coals in anticipation of the 20 degree overnight temps. Well the temp spiked in the living room to about Backwoods Savage (85 degrees). we went to bed shortly after and awoke to the house at about 80.
Get used to that!! I posted on what’s up today but it’s funny. The woodstove Has not been touched since 5 o’clock last night. Only heat on in the house. The kitchen is a balmy 74° and I’m under orders to leave the woodstove alone till at least dusk. The wife said and I quote. I’m having hot flashes so if you don’t want every window and door of the house open.. leave it alone it was only loaded 3/4 full of tulip poplar
Shoot, that is close to normal here. Although yesterday was difficult with the weather. When I went to bed no additional heat was needed. However, the house temp had fell to 77 by the time I got up. I fixed it.
