42 & raining, heading to 25 overnight. Had plenty of vittles, just started the stove back up and brought the fall decoration totes up so my wife can pack up, get ready for the Christmas decorations.
24 degrees outside at the house. 75 degrees inside. Burning Aspen and Ponderosa Pine. ———————————————————————- I’m truly thankful for all of you! Happy Thanksgiving!!
This may be a dumb question but, what does Ponderosa Pine burn like ? Say in relation to Aspen ? -8 ambient, around 10 mph breeze from the west. An 8" round of white spruce , a 6" Aspen round and a 3 " round of black spruce in the stove.
39 and light rain this morning. Rain is supposedly going to turn to snow today. Still going on the large splits of Beech I put in the Wood Gun last night.
26F Outside Loaded up with Silver maple still had some Hedge coals leftover from lastnight to restart the fire. Oh yeah its 75 inside. Nice and toasty just the way I like it...
31 outside 70 in, going to load some ash and head for work. Actually supposed to drop into the 20's today and the wind is already kickin'
Mid 40s right now with temps slowly dropping, will be mid 20s by time opening morning of rifle tomorrow. Little breeze going Tonight we will have a house full of people for son's birthday party. Probably keep burning some black cherry.
High of 32, low 26 today. Finally fired up the Jotul. Hickory and most likely elm by the looks of the way the fibers tore. I don’t love that first fire of the season stove smell… Been burning 5 splits of hickory and oak upstairs twice a day (35# +/-).
It burns great. It burns hotter and longer than Aspen. The thing I like about Aspen, is it burns much cleaner than Ponderosa. Aspen doesn’t stain the glass the way Pondo can. Nice, dry Aspen will actually clean the glass and flu, instead of causing buildup. So I like to burn Pondo and Aspen together. The Ponderosa gets the heat really cranking, and the Aspen keeps everything clean.
I absolutely love those little Jotul stoves. They have a timeless look. Even though I say they are “little” you can actually throw full sized splits and rounds in them. They just don’t take up a ton of space. Which is why they are popular in the small elk hunting cabins around here.
