This was once red brick until my wife had the fabulous idea of painting without running it by me. I sat on this ugliness for 4-5 years before finally deciding to do something about it. Mason was a former student of mine and now my sons baseball coach. He had a bunch of trees cut down about a year ago but didn’t have the time or right equipment to easily turn it into firewood. We bartered each other’s services so I only had to pay for materials. A win win for each of us. Wish I had done this long before. The mantle is a piece of live edge English Walnut I bought from a guy just down the road who specializes in that type of stuff. Wish it was a little thicker but am loving it. Burning some ugly/knarly oak.

I would have to side with the misses, I would far rather have the painted white then red brick.. but the new one far wins out from the old, very very nice!

I’m with you jrider can’t stand painted brick, just can’t see the purpose. Your make over looks great!

The X painted over perfectly good tile in the bathroom years ago...I just stripped that back off about a year ago...brush on citrus stripping paste did a pretty good job...still sucked though. Looks a lot nicer than the blah white paint she put on...especially after it was a few years old :headbang:

    Amazing the difference!
    That is beautiful!

I think stone and wood are timeless.
    (Red) Brick?...always looks dated.
