66 doing to 52. No fire here today or tonight. Had a small fire last night when temps got down to 29 Mike in Okla
A breezy 30 degrees with a projected overnight low of 23. Black birch and aspen coals doing more than enough to keep us warm this evening.
Currently 34 dropping to mid 20s Cut a bunch of the oak 4' splits from my CL buy down for the stove. Some excellent wood.
19F here this AM. I loaded a bit of Oak & Beech in the boiler along with Elm rounds last night. Plenty of heat left from those. Got to 40 with sun today. Down to freezing now, clear & no wind so it feels nice out. Doesn't look like any real winter in the foreseeable future. I'm thinking we may be in for another lackluster winter. I've got literally 100+ cord of logs to skid & I can't get at them till the ground freezes. This'll be winter # 3 of lousy warm wet weather if it continues.
38 out right now, only calling for a low of 37 tonight, filled the OWB with a mix of basswood and cherry (with one round of Maple I finished it off with after the photo)
Baffins are warm. At least the North Slope model is warm. But you will bust your azz, head , nech , blow your rotator cuffs clean off your humorus heads , ECT ECT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️ When you pick them up in the store, they are all nice and warm . And the treads feel soft and plyable. You think , hey, good to go. Then you wear them outside in 20 below or colder weather and the sole turns as stiff as a chain saw bar. If you step on any fresh hard ice . Like a lake or crik , OR WHERE A LOADER OR GRADER SPUN ITS TIRES . YOU WILL BE AT BEST ON YOUR azz. !!!!!!!!! The sole of white Bata Bunny boots DOES NOT GET HARD IN THE COLD so it doesn't get slippery. With Baffins, you Have to have traction devices on them or pain will follow ! But, they are warm . And we'll made. Except for the material that the sole is made from. As you can tell. I have some very strong feelings about Baffin boots !
The ambient warmed up to -4 but it's blowing 30 out at the face of the property. Not bad here at the house. But it's fairly noisey in the tree tops. Built something I've been wanting to for decades today. I framed the house wall for it last year when I built the house. Today I finally got time And energy to build it. It will hold 3 Jet Sled Jr full loads of wood if I stack it carefully. And I didn't drop the kitchen/ living room temp 20° bringing in wood this evening . When I hang sheetrock in the house, I will rock it and finish it up so it looks nice. When I get the scaffold out of the living room , I think it will become my wife's perch. A 3x3 window goes in the wall on the other side of the woodstove. Gonna open it and load the stove for the night with Aspen and black spruce.
Phone says 40f this morning when I got up . Calling for the wind to switch this afternoon and temp to start dropping. Basswood and a round of Maple in this morning.
Well, they might work here as we don't get much super cold and I don't go ice fishing. Mostly would use for hunting, where I am sitting still (that's the worst for cold feet), cutting wood in winter and for going on winter walks. I have always had problems with cold feet and was told many moons ago it is caused by having polio in my youth and was crippled then. I overcame the cripple but not the cold feet, legs and arms.
A warm and balmy 22° this a.m. Red Maple, red oak and cherry keeping the inside first floor at 72° (+/- 2°), basement at 78° (+/- 5°) and 2nd floor in the mid 60s. Always have at least one room that's the right temperature! Sent from my SM-A526U1 using Tapatalk
40, cloudy, windy. More soft maple in the boiler. I turned it off this morning so I can get some charcoal out to cook some burgers over this evening. Sure is nice having my own charcoal factory in the back yard this time of year.
Haha, I was thinking I was one of the only one that did that. When the OWB is going if I want to cook on the grill I just grab a couple shovels of coals out of it and put it in the grill. .
They have some models that have high tops. Kinda like a boot and gaiter all in one. If u will be in deepish snow. The North Slopes only have a 10" top and need gaiters if out wading around in deep snow . Or snowshoeing.
Minus 5 °F ambient here this morning . Wind has slacked off about half. But still blowing . I'm going to burn all the wood trash that accumulated where the wood used to be next to the stove. Then build a dog fence around it. Our Maremma's are so well insulated. They don't know they are too close to the stove. Our male has a couple big singe spots on his guard hair where he got too close. His under coat is still good so the cold still doesn't affect him. But it's a bit unsightly.
39 and dropping quickly. I just threw a split of spruce on a coal bed of apple, aspen and birch. Week 3 of burning and I haven’t had to clean out any ash yet
