My wife and I want to redo our basement floor and are looking for ideas. Carpet it definitely out I hate the stuff plus dogs and the wood stove is down there. It's currently peel and stick vinyl. We would like something nice but not to pricy. I thought about epoxy floor paint but she shot that down. Anyone got any ideas it's a fairly large area about 900 sq. ft. or so. I have heard of luxury vinyl but know nothing about it. The basement gets no water but I'm not sure about dampness from the cement slab.
I like this flooring from HD. Waterproof, easy to put down by yourself. But, where the wood stove is, put down real tile. You could go the whole floor in real tile. Putting either of these over cement is fairly easy. I put mine down with time cement and those plastic spacers. Very easy. Cost of the tiles vary, but can cost you less than a buck per square foot. I have both products in use. The wood look flooring at the front door foyer. Been there several years now and looks as good as the day it went down. I have several pets that put flooring to the test. No issues with that product.
I'll just pass this along. In the past 3 years my company has built 3 decker condo buildings where the basements were turned into townhouses along with the first floor. On the basement floor they painted the concrete with a sealer to help eliminate the sweat and they installed a floating bamboo floor. Morning Star makes the wood flooring and you can get the foam underlay at the retailer as well. The floors are 1/2" thick and lock into place. No staples, no glue. Bamboo also works well in humid conditions. The boards are sealed on all sides and the end grain. There is very little waste, the last board of a row that is cut is the first piece of the next row. Very nice stuff.
http://t.homedepot.com/b/Flooring-V...-Flooring-Resilient-Vinyl-Planks/N-5yc1vZbzjz Sorry it didn't take the first time. My floors takes a heck of a beating. We are all about living, not so much about looks. With animals and grand kids, you pick your priorities. We want easy clean and durable. Add to that it had to be what was affordable.
@savemoney my floors take a pretty good beating too. I am more about function than looks as well. @My Oslo heats my home that's a pretty good idea thanks for the advice.
I've used the LVT planks from lowes in my basement. They look great, and go down easy. However, I put them in my wife's workout room, and the floor has separated in two spots. Both of the separations were at end seams, and I think it's from the exercises that my wife does in that area, rather than a failure of the flooring. The tongue and groove are not very big, and I think the lunges and other things she does were just too much for the floor. Other than that, I'm happy with it.
Vinyl planking would be my suggestion also. Looks pretty close to wood and is durable, easy to lay and water/moisture resistant. I used it for my flooring on my slab and am pleased so far. I would not use real wood on a basement slab.
I bought stuff very similar to this stuff, I'm worried about seam pulling apart. Did you do anything special with adhesive or did you just let it float?
It floats. No adhesive. The individual planks interlock similar to laminate flooring. No issues yet. Mine was made by Shaw if I recall.
