Between 2,200 and 3,600 adult sequoias were either killed by the KNP Complex and Windy Fires or are expected to die within the next five years. The destruction comes on the heels of last year's Castle Fire, which torched between 10% to 14% of the world's sequoias – some 10,000 trees – in the same region of the southern Sierra. Up to 19% of the world's 'irreplaceable' giant sequoias lost to fire in about a year, study finds (msn.com)
A professor set 3 of the blazes and set a 4th fire behind firefighter's backs. He should get attempted murder charges. A lady set the Fawn fire, and it is thought she also started others. But yeah, it's all about climate change. Oh - and this caught my eye at the very bottom of the Fawn Fire article:
I cannot imagine why anyone in their right mind would do something like that. There is a place for them though where is is even hotter.
While educational and informative, the missing parts are the problem. under natural coditions a small natural fire every few years would do this work.... With our omnipotent power as humans we put these small fires out and dont do anything to manage the fuel load that builds up.... Leading to massive fires that nuke everything....
