I've got 5 of the 1 gallon mix packs of Opt 2 oil. I found it on the bench when helping clean out a family member's tool shed a couple years ago. I read up on it and in the the recommended ratio, it's only 70:1 which I wouldn't do but would you guys use it at 50:1 or just toss it. It's not worth worrying about if it's junk and I can just as easily get rid of it. Thoughts?

I've not heard of it, but the web site says it's 2-stroke oil.

I'd use it and mix according to your 2-stroke equipment needs.

    2 cycle oil

I was just wondering if anyone was going to post something like: "Don't use that stuff! I blew up all my saws in one day with it!" Or something to that extent...

They used 30W oil for years, mix it up and run it.

    Use it.
Just do the math and mix accordingly for your needs.

Thanks guys. For years I used leftover oil from my last two 2stroke sleds. Those machines sold in 2001 and I ran those two gallons for years without issue. I just worry more about my newer more expensive saws than I did my old Husky 257 and Stihl 019T.

It’s good oil, even at 70:1. We used to sell it at the dealership as an alternative to the Stihl stuff or as a “universal” mix. I too would probably go 40-50:1 with it for a high performance chainsaw.

For sure, use it! I've been using Opti-2 for somewhere around 15 yrs and I have no reason to change. I mix at 40 to 1 and it burns clean, leaves no deposits and the plugs last.

For me, I run a specific brand or 2. Something like this would either be given away to someone I know or offered up in one of the christmas giveaway threads. I'm picky I guess.

Snowmobile oil is slightly different animal. It’s formulated for water cooled engines. I’ve got a couple gallons of it,,,,expensive,,but I won’t use it. If I had a fleet of homeowner saws I would.

Yup. That's why I stopped using it when I went to pro grade saws a few years back. I still have a gallon of it which will likely never get used... In all honestly though... I used it in all my 2 stroke equipment for close to 2 decades and never had a single issue.

Liquid cooled has been the predominant engine for over 40 years. They still make a few low powered air cooled engines for those that want lawn tractor performance on the snow :)

There are different formulations for the old carburetored liquid cooled and the newer EFI engines.

I use Amsoil 2 stroke oil now, but when i run across an old bottle of oil, I'll mix it into my gas jug a little bit at a time. No reason throwing it away.

AMS oil here, red saber for the saws and in the sleds, I run 100:1 in the 550 fan, 600 etec and 800 ptec I have not disabled the oiler. I run AMS dominator for the as the 2 stroke oil that the machines self inject.
