No one is arguing, no political overtones are associated with the thread.

Mishandling of a gun by one individual (who was a self-appointed authority on weapons) that resulted in another persons death; showing only the standard operating procedure of "don't do as I do, do as I say" approach.

One nice thing about FHC is allowing posts and threads regarding the "G" word. :handshake:

Another forum would be doing flips and twists running to get the shut down of the thread.....keep this open, Scotty!

I agree with both posts entirely! What I can't understand is how a fully functioning firearm can even be allowed on a movie set. The potential for disaster, as we plainly see, is far to great! Surely there are enough prop guns out there in Hollywood Make Believe Land that they don't need to use a live weapon. I see enough blame in this to go beyond just Baldwin!

Guns have "Safely" been used for years and years on TV sets! Many examples I can pull off the Top of my head; The Rifleman, ALL the Dirty Harry movies, Bonanza, The Streets of San Fransisco and about a 100 others just to start. How many Military movies have been made with guns? Thousands! This was blatant Negligence and anyone who has been around guns for any length of time knows to treat every gun as if were loaded!!! Baldwin is not solely to blame, but he is partly responsible. I personally shoot with many professionals and shoot about 30 rifle and pistol matches a year. Nobody in my 35 years of shooting matches has ever been hurt by a gun. Every gun is checked before handling, loading/firing by a 2 person system. The safety factor went to "0" the minute Baldwin put his hands on the gun because he ASSUMED it had blanks in it or it wasn't loaded!

Beyond tragic what happened for all involved. I enjoy a lot of Baldwins work especially in Red October and 30 Rock, but personally I think he's a poor excuse of a human being. That said I wouldn't wish what happened on anyone.

What I don't understand is why there was live ammo within 10 miles of the movie set?

I understand letting "stars" shoot a live gun to help them understand what it feels like to shoot it, but live ammo has no place on the set in the hands of (obviously) incompetent people.

The prosecutor holding the AR should have been called out immediately by the judge for that insane stunt. What a completely stupid move.

I was docked when he did that. Also, that guy had some very inaccurate statements that he thought were facts about fmj bullets.

Also, on our local news, they asked some stock footage of guys in blaze orange with deer rifles talking out by the trucks. One guy had a Winchester 94 lever action. held like this except the barrel was parallel to the ground... Screenshot_20211120-214227(1).png

Not only was the barrel pointed in an unsafe manner, not knowing what is directly behind him, but the hammer was cocked all the way back!!! I don't recall what station that was, but if I did, I'd send them an email about how wrong that clip was showing such poor gun handling.:headbang:

The pure irony that he ended up killing one of his friends/ coworkers. I have a feeling that outside of military and LEO, that 99+% of NRA members haven't killed anyone.

Those lever 94 are a true and tested rifle.....but you have to be constantly vigilant with them. It was in the 80's while using one and doin some heavy brush beating during deer season..(very heavy).....once I got out of it, I looked down and discovered that the hammer had become cocked while walking through the thick cover! I have passed this on to others and for a few years, I would not load a round into the chamber in order to avoid such happening again.

That changed once I missed a buck when I raised the rifle to fire and "click" nothing! Oh yeah, I forgot...no round in chamber! It stared at me the whole while I was jacking a round into the chamber (slo mo) and then "there it was....gone!"

I used a 94 for many years too and my “unsafe” memory is having to chamber each round to unload the tube magazine. Hammer auto set and some kid jacking the lever back and forth quickly.

    THIS!!

It's a hollywood movie set, why do we need a live bullet? Why cannot a blank be used ,why is it a real gun? I mean I just don't get it!!

I really don't believe live rounds are Standard Operating Procedure on a set, which would explain degree(s) of insouciance regarding handling real weapons.

That's what I've heard. They said that they would shoot live rounds target shooting with the guns in their spare time. Armorer was a newb and said that it was hard to tell blanks from live rounds.:picard: How stupid.

In the beginning we were getting honest little hints of what happened. Now that the Lawyers are involved we have guns going off by themselves. By the time the trial gets here President Trump will have pulled the trigger.

Rachel Maddow will report that his finger was on the trigger and there was a string line from his pointer finger going across the Pacific, over Japan, through Siberia and all the way to the Kremlin

    That entire interview was disgusting.
This. Had the man taken two seconds to look in the cylinder all would have been avoided. Take responsibility Alec!
