Been closely watching a house build literally 300 yds from my home. There were a couple of big Doug Firs on the site that I knew had to be cut down. The Supt. of the site said the wood was all spoken for but I left him my info anyway. Trees came down and a few small logs were cut and taken away. Someone started to buck the largest log but then must have realized they didn't want to deal with it cause they quit. There was no work on the wood for about two weeks then the Supt. called yesterday and told me to take what I wanted. Today I used my crane and trailer to take 10 large rounds out and hope to do the same tomorrow. Weather permitting, I also invited a friend to cut some tomorrow. Hopefully Saturday I can get a load to an older Gent that I have known for years. He has promised me a big strapping grandson to help. Looks like I'll be dancing with Doug again for a while!
Likely tomorrow I'll measure the big one. Kinda curious myself! I'm wondering how long I'll have to work on them before the Supt. just loads them in a dump truck and ships them away. That's another question I have to ask.
Yep, that's a couple big boys for sure! Give him a few bucks to dump em at your place. Trucking ain't cheap, the less distance he's gotta haul to dump em the better.
Does the track hoe have a thumb? Maybe the operator could load your trailer. I bet the superintendent would love to get it out of the way. Good luck, I hope you get all of it.
Russ I know you've been watching that one for a while. So happy you are able to get it and also happy you will get some help. Happy Thanksgiving.
Man that is awesome! That would be something if they loaded your rounds for you! I wonder if they were all cut, and you suggested that you could have them all outta here today if there was some help loading.... Hoard on for sure. Looking forward to pice of the take.... Sca
Got 10 rounds day before yesterday. I was busy yesterday AM then it rained like hail in the afternoon so no cutting. Got about 2/3 of a load today (8 rounds) in the AM but had to work around the framing crew so it was fairly inefficient. I am working the heck out of that little crane! Doctor this afternoon. If it weren't for Doctor visits I would have no society! Will unload in the morning and get at least a load out to my older friend hopefully with the help of his grandson. Also have another buddy who will be cutting tomorrow. I staged a couple smaller logs for him today. Then comes the big log that already has some partial bucks in it. No way to roll a log that size so will have to play dice with the rocks underneath to get some rollable lengths. Probably use an old chain for that. Will have some pictures and diameters tomorrow.
They have a 10 yd dump, way too big to get turned around in out tight yard and driveway. There were a large and also a mini hoe on site both with thumbs but they have both gone away. I have a bunch of old chains for my 260. If I can get to the bottom of the cuts I would gladly burn a couple of them.
Took out two whole loads yesterday. One by a friend and one for the old guy I know Also took out 3 rounds off the big log for myself. Two whole standing up in the trailer and another in pieces in the bed. At about 4 ft off the ground the tree is 44" in diameter. One picture is of the varmints (kids) from next door who had to climb in the trailer to count tree rings. They came up with 65 which I did not verify. Today I helped a friend cut a trailer load of the last medium size logs. All that is left now is most of the big one and a bunch of very dirty 6-10 inch limb wood and 3 huge rounds that were cut from the swell of the stump. I will continue cutting from the big log as weather and time permit
