Jersey property taxes are the worst in the country...sadly.

I believe there is a calculator on a state website somewhere you can put your vehicle info in and it will calculate what your cost will be. I haven’t tried to use it in a while not sure it it’s still up.

I guess it’s by town. Didn’t see one for your town. I believe Farmington is about the size of Winchester roughly.

Excise tax for cars in MA is kinda weird. They take the list price of the car and use a sliding percentage over time and use the multiplier $25/$1000.
My '83 Chevy PU only costs me $16.75 every year but a brand new truck could easily be over $800 the first year.
What I really like is they exempt emissions testing after it's 15 years old. In NY they dont exempt emissions until over 25 years old.

Year you bought your vehicle Vehicle value (% of manufacturer's list price)
Year before designated year of manufacture 50%
    Year of manufacture 90%
    Second year 60%
    Third year 40%
    Fourth year 25%
    Fifth year and onwards 10%

Car registration in Wisconsin isn't too bad. I believe I paid $85 per year. I have a 3 year old Buick Enclave and if I keep it ten years and the state doesn't raise registration, I will be still paying $85. Registration is not dependent on the value of the vehicle.

In MA they really penalize the newer vehicles which is fine by me because I prefer the old stuff anyway.
Much Older car = much lower excise tax & no emissions. People call MA Taxachusettes but there are worse states.

All this talk about tax makes me feel bad. No property tax, no school tax, no state income tax, no sales tax, and the audacity to charge me $100 per car for a 2 year registration, until it 8 years then free, and permanent registration for all my trailers. Its unreal how Alaska is taking advantage of me.

It is yearly, but it goes down every year . After the 5th (I think that's right), it is pretty minimal. When I registered the 2014 Explorer last year, I paid $55 in state fees and $100 for town fees. When I registered the 2018 Explorer, for which the book value is 3x as much, I think I paid another $100 to transfer the tags.

Aren't you worried about the waters from Lake Superior rising 300 feet in 12 years if we don't shut down that pipeline in Michigan next week? Think of the poor children! :jaw:

I am Hoping this is a joke. I hope this isn’t a real study. I mean people have figured out all the great lakes go through another lake and end up going over Niagara Falls and out the St. Lawrence seaway to the ocean right. Lake Superior goes to Lake Huron..
So Lake Superior cannot go up xxx feet Without all every other lake going up same plus Atlantic Ocean.. :picard:

Sheesh. The 300' mark was just me poking fun. There are no ice sheets staged around the region waiting to inundate yooperdave as he enjoys a good cigar and a glass of bourbon. Last I knew the Great Lakes were getting less great, water-level wise. Maybe that's changed since I last checked though. Fun fact: if the sea levels do go up, we'll have to change the figures for every mountain range and low spot on earth, considering they're all measured from sea level.

I apologize for derailing this thread. Let's bring it back in. In time, some of us will be paying a tax for "water level rise mitigation/land reclamation/big time subsidization"

I live in an unincorporated township so the likelihood of property tax, no services like water, sewer, police or fire coverage, so that part I will never see. State income or DMV that stuff is what it is.

I dont think the administration will mess with Alaska oil, because of how its tied to the Eskimo/Native's. Cutting into Eskimo/Native monetary solvency brings the gooberment into a world of issues.

Does this mean I can peddle a story for years on end, keeping a large swath of the general population on the edge of their seat, and when it gets debunked and the indictments come I can double down on my convictions or ignore the story altogether?
