Head west for Mesquite. I used to live in Hobbs, NM (just west of Midland/Odessa) and that’s all we had. Great for grilling and smoking too. Mike in Okla
lots of oak here in north texas which I can't complain about. Been getting a lot of ash as well. I have gotten a few loads of osage orange which is fun to burn.
Somehow late to the party. Hedge aka osage orange. Not native here. Old Nate are you thinking black locust or honey locust? Either way both are great firewoods.
you know you are in the right place when most people say "oh good, firewood, let's burn it" and then we come here and talk about wood like fine wines (rest time, burn speed, btu, aroma, etc). Glad other people enjoy it like I do.
Yep, we're special here. It's a great site, and I'm happy to be part of it. I don't think there has there been a Texas FHC GTG yet? If not, there should be.
I have a pile of hickory in Massachusetts if anyone wants it. It’s green and doesn’t split by maul so I have my work cut out for me.
