    Need help with this one. Cuts super easy and throws nice sized flakes from the saw. Has kind of a bitterish smell. 3756987B-C0FC-4B39-AB6C-427CADEB2CB5.jpeg

    From the leaves in the pic my app says Southern Magnolia.

    There was some magnolia in that pile but this isn’t magnolia.

    That end cut pic looks like red maple to me. I haven't cut a lot of it though. Typically see a darker heart wood.

    Magnolia would explain why the saw was carving big chips. It’s a soft, almost poplar like wood to cut.

    Id say red maple. Spits out big chips with a sharp chain on the saw.

    Im less certain to red maple now too. Doesnt have much of an aroma IME

    Bark definitely looks like (red) maple.
    I was expecting to see a dark center though.

    I love maple. Dries fast, burns hot, not much coals left (to burn down) when it's time to stoke the next fire.
