Spent the morning and a bit of the afternoon working on some storm damage oak. One still from Sandy and branches from alittle over a month ago. The sandy wood got stacked for future years, the branches were only bucked and I stacked most of the poplar, hickory, and maple last night.
Looks like a good day of it WS, I left the wood alone this weekend...it was a bit hot here anyway. Cool down coming this week so I'll likely get back at it.
I did the cutting early. When wearing chaps and a helmet, things heat up quick. Splitting under the canopy of the trees was pleasantly cool.
Agree! There is alot more nice rounds as I progress up the tree. Yup, the stuff split with ease, like butta! Every oak, except pin oak has split beautifully! Next oak up, swamp oak...
We had 85 in the shade, five waters and one OJ, once I was out of water it was time to head home. Some big rain coming this way, 2-4 inches possible.
Ill check out your post. We hit that temp in the sun, causing a 1/2 gal sweet tea to go down smooth. Almost put back some bar oil. I need to watch what im reaching for.
The oak I split today, I thought was white, due to the white sheen it had. But it very may be black oak...... I guess the lighting was off. Im not sure I've split gum before??
Heck no! Everything got split savagecly. (Pics) I split horiz when I'm splitting quarters or light wood. It was nice sitting on a stump and tossing the splits into the trailer.
Yeah, I missed the vert set-up pic... only way to go... Sounds like the perfect mode... sittin, splittin & chuckin.
Lol...... I think either way shines depending on the situation. Big and heavy, no question vertically!
Nice looking wood! Love the stack shots too. I really like how you have the wood stacked up high off the ground with the cinder blocks and treated landscape posts. I'm doing that next too.... I think it will help keep everything a lot dryer.
