Anyone using some canned premix fuel?

I’ve ran ethanol free mix with stihl ultra sitting in my saws for up to a year and a half. No issues starting.

 

There are no ethanol free locations near me so I run standard 91 octane and stabilizer. Been doing that since ethanol was a thing and I've never had an issue with any OPE that I run. Heck, I even became a city boy for a few years in 2012 and my saws didn't run for a couple years. They fired right up when the time came and ran strong after that until I upgraded them years later. So, while I'd buy ethanol free if it were available for the small upcharge, in my experience I don't find it or canned fuel to be a requirement.

Yea, dont do that. The watee that the ethanol absorbs is the real problem.

 

It's all I use, and have been for my 11 years of firewood hoarding. I have yet to have a fuel system issue. That being said, I don't leave any one piece of ope sit, unran, for extended periods.

I think you are doing the right thing firewoodbuckenman If your stuff is sitting a lot, canned fuel is smart. I was given a couple cans of Trufuel a while back. While it did fine, there's no way I'd pay that much. I use too much to justify the added costs.

 

Can't get ethanol-free locally any more so I have a can of the canned pre-mix. I use it for the last run with the saw so it flushes as much of the ethanol out as it does. Seems to be working. I don't use 87 in the saws though. 91-94, whatever BJ's sells for premium.

 

I run E-free 87 in all my small gas engines except weed eater and chainsaws which may sit for a while. I use Truefuel in the latter. The blower gets the E=free and Stihl silver oil. The Wif runs it almost every day and I would go broke using the Truefuel. Wish I could easily find premium E-free for the blower but then I would have to keep it on hand as well as the 87 for generator, boat and log splitter. All my saws and weed eater start fast and run great. My part time firewood cutting partner who uses e+ fuel is always forgetting his gas can and asking to fuel up his saws with my Truefuel. I started carrying a loaner can of rot gut for him and that problem went away! Now I need to carry a can of loaner old crankcase oil for his bar oil.

 

Agreed it’s pricey, unfortunately. I should pony up for that 5 gal drum of VP someday, my stuff can do the keg stands I can’t anymore. Hope I get you for the Secret Santa so I can send you a can of the good stuff.

 

You’re also on a department, right? Mine runs VP fuel, alongside Echo Red Armor for our older stuff.

I recommend the canned fuel to people who only occasionally use their saws or other equipment. It helps with keeping them running.

I have a case of the VP, that one of my guys gets at a good price through his shop. I keep it on hand for my weed eater in the off season and when I need a splash of fuel for a quick job.

 

Good not to be alone here. Just a couple months in myself (raised the kid first).
We run the Husqvarna premix, vent saw/K-12, Stihl and Husqvarna respectively. They just got us a new 5G bucket of stuff, haven't looked it over yet.
At home, i mix my own, and run the ethanol free stuff through at end of season. Last year, I ran the saws regularly, so never switched out the fuel. This year, I'll run everything perhaps monthly just to hear and smell them run. 'Cept the weed wacker, I'll change that out.

The amount I use between my saws, trimmer, and blower I can't afford pre-mix. I do use high octane. If I could get ethanol free in this liberal state I would, but you can't find it.

 

I've traveled to Winchester NH for e-free, from a pump.

I've recently heard that it might be available in Burrellville RI, not too far from me. I still need to verify.

Interesting. I absolutely hate the smell of true fuel when run in a saw. I love the smell of fuel, race gas even more, but when true fuel is burned, it just has this acrid smell to it that I can't stand.

I bought a couple cans of true fuel a few years ago, because it was on sale. I liked it, and I didn't notice any bad smell.
Then a buddy of mine got a new Makita 6100, and I mentioned to use true fuel if he had any doubts about gas. Especially with a new saw. That new true fuel stank. I didn't even want to be down wind of that saw.
Did they change the formula of true fuel?


I do like the two cans of true fuel for saw gas when I go into the woods, I have a small cardboard box that the two cans fit perfectly into, and this fits into my bucket boss 5 gallon pail for cutting. I've found that if I run two of those cans out in a day, that's enough to fill my trailer, if not more.

 

And water/ethanol (alcohol) can corrode aluminum. Over time

I guess maybe I’m not sure about the smell of the true fuel, and it could have been another brand too. But that Husqvarna stuff smells really good to me.
I’ve also held on to the quart cans from the Husqvarna fuel, they are super handy for me. I mix up a gallon of my regular mix then pour it into those cans
