I think you’ve got 2 different species here, going by the pictures with the leaves vs the pictures of your buddy’s loaded truck. Either way elm/maple/hickory you done gooder

I'm just happy to have onsite inventory, to refill racks as they empty over the next few months.

True. Is it a feast or famine type of situation or have you been able to replenish without worry in years past?

I always seem to have enough on hand.

My BIL still has an oak he wants down, and there's a big oak blowover at my SIL'S. She also wants some oaks down that are shading her garden.

I have about 5cord ready to burn this year. And, an additional 7cord css'd. I burn 3-4cord each heating season. So, I'm in fine shape, in that regard.

Hoarder anxiety sets in when there's empty racks with no inventory. :hair:

I'd guess I now have 2.5-3 cord of wood onsite to css.

I meant to get a closeup of the bark. I will!

If it's elm, then I'll buck it and try splitting it. If it doesn't split, I'll find someplace to stash it for a year or three.

Oh boy that's elm alright :D
Don't be skeered. Throw some good old Yankee determination at it, and it will surely bend to your will (or bend the handle of your splitting maul)

Sounds good to me! I'm reaping the benefits of the noodling I do. I keep lots and transfer them into garbage bags when dry. Now during shoulder season, a big handful of noodles and some splitter scraps makes an instant fire with a match.
