I think you took that the wrong way, that sounds like a hint that she is cold and she wants a fire on the main floor as well.

 

Been away for a few days and returned to a house at 55f (frost setting on oil heating). Burning some maple and things are slowly starting to warm up now.

 

Wouldn’t be the first time I didn’t understand a foreign language.

 

42 here headed to 49. Cold rain outside. Had my 2nd fire last night. Small fire with Oak chunks and uglies.

Hovered around the mid 50's through the day time yesterday and gradually made its way down to 33F on the forecast through the night so I got a load of maple in the stove last night.
Temps in the house got into the upper/mid 70's but were still at 68 this morning.

Getting snow tires installed on the car today so I took the motorcycle to work, definitely noticed the 32F then.

 

I had to check and see if you were from Wisconsin after reading that, you would fit right in, in Wisconsin

 

When do you guys switch from shoulder wood to the good stuff? In the past I would usually burn shoulder wood until my stash for the year was gone before switching over to the good stuff.

 

I do pretty much the same unless I get a real cold snap.

I don't have enough wood to make it through the winter,so i burn my SS wood tell it's gone, I add in better wood with it if it's going to get colder.

 

This year- for the first year- I have a face cord of cherry stacked in my front yard which is south facing that I'm going to use for my overnight burns when the temps get and stay low enough that I need to burn through the night and need to get a fire up and going in the morning.
Last year the cherry I was using could have been the best wood I've ever burned so I want to try and save that for the times I need it the most.

I feel much better knowing I am not the only one who keeps burning shoulder wood til its gone. So you ever save any for late winter/early spring burning?

 

It's kind of late to cut down a tree or two for heat this winter unless they're standing dead.If they are standing dead one or two trees may not be enough to get you through the winter.

 

First fire of the season! 47 here headed down to 42 overnight. Load of silver maple has the secondaries rolling!

 

Freezing precipitation in the NC Appalachians right now. Smaug are you getting sleet? Got 2 stoves loaded with oak for the night.

 

Satire is a literary device I employ for a lighthearted comedic effect far too often.

 

Yeah it got the coldest it has all season so far last night. I saw 28 on our weather center.

Tonight, it's already down to 30°, but it's not supposed to be as chilly as last night.

Burning box elder and balsam fir. There may be an elm shorty in there later for some coals in the am.

 

I start switching when I need more than just an overnight fire. Box elder and pine doesn't hold coals really well, especially not the pine. So when it gets to the tennis that I'll need a fire in the am, I'll start throwing in elm and ash or other mid grade stuff that holds coals longer.

Then again at some point I'll be at the mostly ash portion of my stacks, and then put the really good stuff in when the temps get really cold out.

 

Yep, I put some SS wood at the front and the back of my wood shed stacks. So the stacks are arranged the same as the shoulder seasons.
