Looks like you missed out on that score... by about 20 years The only thing they’re good for now would be one or two season planters for flowers.
I'm the kind of guy that would grab those and try to find a way to market them. Surely they would fit right in with an Etsy store!
That's not a bad idea actually hahahaha. I did smash one with my feet and it did take some effort so I think they will be ok for a little while at least.
I did that this year with a hollowed out oak round. I filled it with potting soil and planted marigolds inside.
We have a red oak tree that was like that when I was young. That was a long time ago. The tree is still standing and alive. The heartwood is gone from the ground to about 15 feet up. The tree hasn't grown much, if at all. It's just alive.
You drill a 1” hole towards the bottom & fill those with splitter scraps & such and make a nice Swedish Torch. I cut down a Cherry tree a couple years ago that looked like that.
I thought the exact same thing. Here is an example. I saw a story on the news a few days ago, about a furniture company that builds custom furniture out of “authentic, elk chewed Aspen wood.” It’s really expensive and people buy the heck out of it. I’ve always run the elk off when I see them chewing on my aspens. But maybe I’m actually living in a gold mine!
Oh yea. This one ended up at the corner of my neighbor's driveway. His wife has planted flowers in it the last couple years. Has mums in it right now. 26" red oak iirc
