As I don't have a shed full of seasoned wood. I think I'll buy another cord of fkws to tide me over till I can get up to get more loads of it from the decks. The Birch I have is too wet for good burning.
Yesterday I heard, "Boy it is hot in here," for the first time this season. But then, I don't get many visitors. I thought it was quite comfortable in my house. Perhaps I should comment on how cold it is in their house this winter?!
Yeah I'm in Ozaukee county, but I know where you are. Your place is near a friend's farm. Not shocking at all about the ash wicking water up by the river.
Warmed up overnight. High 20s and blowing. Calling for it to blow 30 last I knew. Which isn't much. Usually when the wind comes up from any direction the temps come up. Fkws in the stove.
Last night was the first time we've had squeeky snow this year. It was great. Walked the dogs in my Crocs. Squeeky snow is packed snow that makes lots of noise when it's walked on. It has dehydrated and is frozen together. So it's not slippery. As a general rule. We Really like squeeky snow. This morning . The snow is not squeeky. So watching our footing is again a Thing.
Usually don't get the squeaky snow until colder temps here. (below zero, that is) But I have to ask, how many dogs of yours wear your crocs? And where do you find a small enough size that their paws don't keep slipping out of them???
37/62. 61 right now. Too warm to burn anything, usually burning by mid October. Usually the trees are turning pretty colors and a lot of them are dropping leaves by now. About the only trees dropping most of their leaves are the hickory's so far.
I'm jealous, we don't get good snow like that much here anymore. Usually wet greasy stuff that's dangerous to work in. I miss when we had good winters here.
46, cool and wet here. Light rain here and there. Burning some smaller splits of Maple and Beech right now. Good to be on full wood heat again.
47 outside and the fire in the basement is keeping the house a balmy 71. Burning mostly oak, but some Poplar splits showed up in the stack I pulled from yesterday. I don’t remember how it got there, because I don’t bring it home on purpose.
