A large solar flare erupted Thursday and is set to reach Earth Saturday, which could result in a strong geomagnetic storm and cause the aurora borealis, or Northern Lights, to be visible across the US and Europe. The Northern Lights could be visible from Portland Oregon to New York City. It may also be visible on the horizon as far south as Carson City, Nevada, Oklahoma City, and Raleigh, North Carolina.

Aurora borealis could be visible in wide swaths of continental US, Europe on Saturday because of large solar flare (msn.com)

We've got to stop those danged solar flares. They are a wasteful source of fuel and constantly bombarding our planet with electromagnetic energy.

Wheres that little girl from sweden?

I think there are some headlines suggesting a doomsday Halloween with infrastructure being impacted. I guess the bread and milk brokers would like everyone to run out like trained sheep and hoard bread and milk like we are supposed to do almost any time it rains now.

Last time flares were visible here , around 25 years ago, they were red not green. Still pretty cool.

I’ve been to the edge of the article circle several times now. They are awesome to watch, especially when they are different colors.

A couple of weeks ago, green Aurora Borealis displays were happening in our area.

That's great - it is going to be raining all until Sunday. Started raining a couple hours ago even though it wasn't supposed to start until late morning or so. Every time there is an interesting celestial event, that happens.

Here's map from NOAA Boulder Colorado yooperdave, you should be in the prime viewing area in Michigan, I know I have zero chances of seeing anything as far south as I am. Good Luck on viewing tonight.
