Thanks for sharing. It is nice to see that covered bridge after reading about another one being burnt to the ground. Backwoods Savage is right. You really had great weather for the trip.

The girls look like they could almost be twins.

Been a while since I've been to Conway or Fryeburg to the Fair in October. Friend used to have a place on Conway Lake and another at Eidelweiss Village in Madison.

We bought a timeshare up there 20 years ago. Week 40 that runs into Columbus Day weekend. 90% of the time like this year it's peak.

For the girls, last year and this year the wife and I drove up in my truck on Sunday. The girls one is a sophomore in college, the other is a sophomore in high school drove up Wednesday after classes. That gave us some time alone, and some time with the girls. My son was not able to come up this year. He started a new job.

Next year my junior in college will be studying abroad. She'll either come up with my wife and I or her brother if he takes some time off.

Peak hit on Friday in the upper elevation and started to creep into the valley. I've done tons of skiing up there, but fall is by far my favorite time to go.

We are there all week. Monday-Thursday it's not too bad. We get up early and do our hikes in the am. With the exception of Diana's Bath which we did in the afternoon. Also the pictures from the railroad trail on the Lincoln side were Friday late morning. We had a meeting to attend the blew the day up and paid the price heavily getting stuck in massive traffic on the Kanc after a car went off the road before the hairpin turn. Normally we would be nowhere near the Kanc by 9am or after on Friday-Sunday when we leave.

One thing I am sad to note about our trip: After going up there for so many years, many restaurants are closed on Monday's. Last fall we saw the usual for restaurants. This year was completely different. Many of the restaurants were closed Monday's and Wednesday's some three days a week. Others had reverted to taking reservations. Many were not doing takeout. The problem is staffing. We eat on the early side to begin with. On Monday night the wife and I went to the Muddy Moose for 4:30. We had skipped lunch that day. They had a 30 minute wait already. By the time we were getting seated just after 5, the wait was an hour and fifteen minutes. Now keep in mind that Monday's were already bad as many restaurants were closed, but with so many more closed there were few options.

Tuesday we tried to go to the nice Italian restaurant we go to most years. Last year we did take out do to COVID. This year we were hoping to get a table. No such luck. We went a 4:30 and they had no reservations left, and were not doing take out. We still ended up a descent place to celebrate our 24th anniversary.

We also found that once seated in the restaurants, not all tables were being used. That was not a COVID spacing plan. It was a lack of staffing issue.

Not only were the restaurants an issue, but tons of stores were closed in one of the major outlets up there, Settlers Green. It's a very large open air outlet with a ton of stores. We couldn't believe how many of the stores were closed compared to last year. Thankfully I only go to the outlet the one day with the wife. The wife goes back with girls after they arrive and does a full day. I like to walk to the shops on the north end of town by our place. They are local shops for the most part. The only exception is the Olympia store.
