I worked with Craig about 20 yrs here in GA, shift work just wasn't for him and he wanted to follow his music career dream. He left about 6 yrs ago and moved to Alabama. He has a contract to record a CD and things are moving toward for he and his wife. We try to go see them in October, when there is a festival in their town. We left home the 15th, came back the 19th. Had a great time, here are some pictures of the adventures. We always try to carry them a load of wood when we go. Saturday, we went to her son's house and added some red maple that had been dropped and pulled up to their hoard. We hauled 1 big load, 3 rows on the truck While we had help, we cut him about 2 more loads, always fun playing with saws. Used the MS180 and Husky 55. Craig learned how to noodle, never seen it done before. Didn't buck the bottom trunk, close to 40". Sunday, we went to Colorfest, fall festival in Mentone, lots of vendors. The Brow, one of the high ridges off Lookout Mountain, is one of the highest places in Ala. Some beautiful views from there. My hunny and I also got a couple of his sweatshirts And y'all know I had to look at trees...lol...even found a honey locust...
Sunday evening, after the festival, we rode about 1 hr south to Sardis City, a place he plays music at called Bama Bucks. It is a nice restaurant, with really good food and exotic animals. Inside the restaurant... I tried the bison tenderloin, onion rings and salad. It was so good and tender My hunny got the Bama Burger. 2 bison patties, bison chili, bacon, cheese, slaw, fried egg...they brand the bun and give you a Indian head/buffalo nickel to take home... She had to bring half of it home... We were sitting by a window, had a wildebeest and a couple different antelope walk by. After we ate, we walked over to the General store...the lady on that side is in charge of Jolene, a 6 month old Joey... And it wears a diaper... We got to meet Charlie, the piebald buck...loves to have his head scratched... A Watusi bull, I think and camel The kangaroo pasture Had a couple ostriches Had probably 10 or 12 elk...got a video of the spikes sparring Bigger bull and his cow Greeter bear Their whitetail deer preserve is across the road. Lots of does and a HUGE breeder buck, over 200+" of antlers. He is lying down in the shade, zoom in on him... Some of the antler sheds that have been collected over the years... A big moose in the country store... My hunny found the pumpkins and tractor...I think that's me waiting on her to finish shopping...
We did see some color on a few trees, the persimmons and sweet gums were very red.. Small sweet gums in the ditch On Monday, we took about a 2 hr ride west to Decatur Ala. On the way, we stopped at an overlook on the Tennessee River... Crossed another area that had a big bloom of yellow flowers... We stopped in Scottsboro, checked out this place, they have all kinds of stuff. Clothes, electronics, cameras, headphones, sometimes ammo... Here are a couple unique things that has shown up over the years... From there we went on through Huntsville, went by the space program Saw a railroad bridge across the river I think The Wood Wolverine has been to Decatur, Ala... Big Bob Gibson's BBQ place has a small hoard of hickory... Great place to eat. Wish I had gotten some pictures of all the trophies they had. I got the sampler platter On the way home, we went by Desoto Falls. At the top, there is a dam with a small lake, then the first waterfall Then it flows through the 2nd waterfall And a horseshoe canyon

Nice of you to think of us and tke and share the pics of your travels. I don't think I would be able to leave any of those eateries that you stop at though...
Awesome pics! I saw you tagged me then started looking at the pictures. Seeing all those animals I was about to freak if you saw a live Wolverine! I need the street sign for my driveway... My wife and I just got back from 5 day trip that ended w/ me seeing quite a few live Wolverines!! That BBQ looked great btw. Did it taste as good as it looked?
Nice trip and pics T.Jeff Veal! As soon as you mentioned Decatur I was thinking "I hope they went to Big Bob Gibsons!" How was the chicken with white sauce? That's on my list if I get down 'Bama way....
Great minds think alike! BBG's is the only reason Decatur AL is on my radar. Yeah, the white sauce is different, a few acquaintances have made it, not sure how it stacks up to the real place. The ribs look good too!
That was a great animal park! We went to one when I was little, the Catskill Game Farm. The antelopes would mob you for pellets out of the gumball machine.
