After watching my friend waste Literally a couple hundred dollars in .45 ammo In talking to him and having him show me his hold on the new to him .45 Glock 30s We discovered he wasn't using his dominant eye for one thing And for another he was using A 6 o'clock hold like a 1911 And not a point of aim hold The Glocks like. This caused him to miss the plate rack entirely at 20 yards And this guy is a very good rifle shot Just not a experienced pistol shooter.
Yeah the whole eye thing seems so intuitive to those of us who shoot a lot/grew up shooting, but messes up a lot of "new" folks. Had he shot 1911s before, or are you just referencing that? If he had, you would think the dominant eye thing wouldn't have been an issue, well even with the rifle experience. That's a lot of ammo sent down range with negative results to not try a different aiming/sight picture on target... Good that you were able to work with him and hopefully get him on the path to better results. For some reason, I find it interesting that his first pistol (the first pistol part is an assumption) is a Glock 30.
He's like me Rifle and shotgun left handed shooting Pistol and revolver right hand shooting. For a minute the 30s was the hot ticket That's when he got it Until the much smaller 9mm subcompacts came along and dominate the market now.
Don't believe I've heard of mixed handed shooting. Is that because it's more comfortable for some reason? I've never been much on glocks, the few I've held feelt like bricks, and the one I shot (brother in laws) felt like I was shooting a brick. Did think about getting a 20 or 20 sf, till I held one...
It's more comfortable to me personally I'm left handed and left eye dominant. But easily transition to right hand shooting I'd say the pistols available to me in the 70s 80s Were mostly browning hi power and 1911s So I just got accustomed to right hand shooting for that reason. As far as Glocks they are good guns but Personally I always felt they were way overpriced I used to buy them at a very good prices from my FFL dealer friend. Compared to the competition now Any day I'd rather have a M&P 2.0 or a 400.00 canik series Pistol Much better sights, triggers and ergonomics to me. In the glock series I do like the 9mm and .40 19/23 and the chunky .45 30s But I'd never buy another with so many good options out there now. I prefer the I'd like to try an arex delta one of these days They look interesting.
I wanted to share this but keep forgetting... so anyway maybe old news for some. I grudgingly use +2.0 readers but they don't work well at all for spitting lead downrange, so after too much time spent searching I found ELVEX full lens safety glasses that are full lens magnifiers, not just the useless little patch at the bottom. I have +1.0 and they work well at sharpening the front sight and the target. That jungle website has them if you care to patronize it, but can be found other places as well. From everything I've seen, they appear to be the same ones sold as special "shooting glasses" but are 1/2 the cost.
As of right now my local Walmart Only raised the price of the Federal 3.00 to 20.00 My local gunstores the same box is 40.00 The Winchester was 18.00 at Walmart I pick some up for the kids for Christmas Gifts When I see it It's been available often as of right now.
Still not used to the gx4 But I haven't tried the 13rnd extended Mags I just got in 11 yds With the larger grip I should do better Seems to be very accurate when I do my part The g3c has much more real estate to hold on to. But the g4 recoil is hardly noticeable to me well design pistol imho
Nice. Yeah I'm picking up mostly that stuff when I see it although the price of it is shooting up to 21 dollars getting it up to 7 cents a round but at least it's becoming more available. Sure doesn't last long on shelves though. Do your pistols have any ammo gripes/issues? Been wanting a .22 pistol but keep going back and forth on a 6 shooter to mag fed.
As far as .22 pistols by the nature of the cartridge they'll never be as reliable as center-fire. But I haven't had any mechanical issues at all with My M&P compact .22 I can't tell you how many bricks I put through this pistol Since I got it About 8 year's ago. Or the TX .22s I've shot 6 of those at this point no mechanical issues at all. The Ruger mark 2 I have has been Excellent in accuracy and reliability. I haven't owned a mark 4 Oddly the 4 different barrel length 22/45 mark 111 polymer frame models I had no luck at all Personally I couldn't get any of them To be reliable Accurate yes reliable no lol Other's love them though. The Glock 44s I tried were not reliable at all Nice shooter's but jammed a lot.
Thanks I have mostly .22 rifles, fair amount of ammo but my smallest caliber for handgun is 9mm. It was a toss up because I didn't want to pick a gun that had terrible feed issues. Other nuances of .22 I'm bound to find. I'd rather try for reliable first and then accuracy.
It occured to me a year or so ago, I didn't even own a .22 pistol anymore. I fondled a Glock 44 and was not impressed one bit. I don't like the ergonomics of them, and for a premium price it felt cheap and light, plus the trigger was awful. Add to that it is known to be picky to be any sort of reliable. I've owned Ruger Mark ...whatevers... and feed problems were not even a topic, ever. I don't particularly like the Luger grip angle though I ended up with a M&P Compact Tactical and it is accurate and has eaten every brand of LR and Standard velocity ammo I've fed it with zero issue.
The fil is very into pistols, I know he has/has had Ruger, Browning, Smith etc 22's and who knows what all else. A couple years ago he got several Sig Mosquitos, and I've heard him recommend them to several people.
The +2 magazines did the trick for my large hand's Much easier to get a purchase of the grip now I don't have a holster so I put it in A Makita impact holster. Hopefully Taurus will introduce A .22 gx4 version Like the m&p compact is That would be a winner. The Smith is one of my favorite pistols. Also a tx .22 made into a 9mm Would be nice to see.
I got all exited when I heard of a .22 pistol by SIG... Sig Mosquito is(was) a rebranded German Sports Guns Firefly, imported by ATI. They were dressed up with SIG nomenclature and as I remember, after a year or two were dropped entirely by SIG because of problems. Not to say they don't work for some folks, but after doing some looking around I steered clear of it. Who knows, maybe they (GSG) have addressed the problems now. American Tactical Inc.
I've never fired one But a member on a another forum Has a couple of the Mosquitoes He has tried everything to make them reliable. But hasn't had any luck.
Interesting GHinNH and Czed. I've never researched them, only dealings I've had with them was fil. He hasn't had any issues with his (or he hasn't said) and has recommended them. Guess it can happen with any gun/product.
Of course It's like anything out there most are awesome A few have issues. I have no personal experience with them Never even shot them They look good though. My friend always made my Ruger sr9c Jam and I honestly never had a jam in hundreds and hundreds of rounds through it lol He couldn't get one mag through it And it would jam. Limp wristing probably idk Just an example what works for one may not work for another.
My neighbor wanted to try a Glock 17 I only have a 22 She's like wow this is a such big heavy pistol And she's right compared to what's available now. I remember distinctly my old boss Bought a Glock 22 the year it and the .40 we're introduced I was amazed how light it was lol I guess they are old school now
I watch a YouTuber and he was testing Blazers out in 3 guns and one of them was an M&P pistol. I figured that looked simple and I like the S&W line a lot. Looked at the GSG Firefly videos last night too. They look ok, downsides with the trigger being stiff at 7-14 lbs? What??? Sure it depends on the application. I'm not here for competition shooting but it's at least my goal to have something easy to use overall.
