Sorry guys I have a whole different take. First off, this is in no way shape or form a law enforcement matter. Second, the matter is in the hands and is the responsibility of your neighbors, it is not your concern. If you feel strongly about it, talk to him. Third, if you are still wound up about it, help your neighbor and just take the tree down and dispose of it. It is not something the taxpayers should be paying for.
It's a potential public safety issue. Law enforcement is often involved in public safety, even if all it takes is a report sent to the powers that be. The power company should/could be interested in protecting their lines and entities responsible for road safety should/could be interested in protecting the navigability and safe use of the road. Unfortunately, the keyword in the first sentence is "potential" whereupon judgement and odds calls get made by those with/without the funds and/or mandates to act. Sometimes it 'takes a village' and it's wise to just take matters into one's own hands and deal with a potential problem with the resources available and if that means doing it yourself because you can then by all means you should, taking liabilities into consideration as well.
I have an electric pole just outside my house the power lines are going through a pin oak (or at least I think it's a pin oak ) on my property. Literally through the core of the tree with a bunch of limbs. I called and they came out, they said they will only trim anything that is 10ft or more to the main pole, it was a joke they cut a few small limbs. They don't care about the homeowner being down (at least in my area AC electric) just that main pole that could take out several houses.
True enough...unless you have "medical service"...meaning that you have medical equipment that needs to be powered 24/7 (or as needed) supposedly they will take better care to keep those customers on, and get them back on with 1st priority when there is an outage...again, that's how it is here, may be different elsewhere...
I agree it looks dangerous. But I bet if we all drove along our roads and looked, there's hundreds of dead/dying/leaning trees that should be taken care of.
Very true. I see a lot of them in my travels. Of course im the only driver on the road looking at trees!
Thank You for giving me something to think about. I will have to call our power company, and let them know that my Wife is recovering from the China Virus, and is on an oxygen concentrator, Hopefully if there is a power outage, they would prioritize our service. Unfortunately, my current schedule has me away from home 3 or 4 nights a week. I have our 4,000 watt generator locked in my tarped utility trailer, with an add 5 gallon gas can cabled next to it. I have a cord run into the garage and through the pet door between the garage and house. I have talked to a couple of reliable neighbors about Rae’s need for electricity, and where the generator is, both said that they would be right over, if the power goes out. It still surprises me just how differently two people in the same house can be affected by Covid. At 56, I am almost 3 years older than my Wife, we both have a few extra pounds (Husky Man describes more about me, than just my taste in saws) I am type 2 Diabetic, and have High Blood Pressure, my Wife has neither, by all logic, I should have been the one with the more severe case, but not so. I never had a Fever, Sore Throat or loss of taste or smell, just a minor, occasional cough, minor head and body aches, and some “ Digestive Issues “. I have had worse Cases of Common Cold and Flu. My Wife had a Terrible Cough, Fever, Bad Head and Body Aches, Sore Throat, and was in the Hospital, on Oxygen ( but NOT a ventilator) for 3 nights. She is home again, but tied to an oxygen concentrator, by a 50’ tube. She can get around the house pretty well, but the stairs really take a toll on her. She will probably be on the oxygen concentrator for about 3 months. The Dr. expects her to make a full recovery, but it will be a slow recovery Doug
then i would find out ''who owns the road'' and start calling them, continuously! This is considered a ''danger tree'' its just a matter of time before it goes over and takes another tree, or some innocent person with it. Or, falls across the road after dark, and some one runs into it. Me, i'd go visit the neighbor and ask if they have insurance that will cover THEM, if the tree goes down and possibly kills some one, or causes a huge problem when it goes down. just my 2 cents worth
If its a pin oak, the leaves won't fall till about JUNE! lol, or later. Right before the new one's start coming on
Here are few pic's I snapped this morning before work of what I am talking about. Maybe it's not as bad as I thought!! Now that you mention about the leaves I truly think it is pin oak because those dang leaves stay on forever. But I'll let the experts here call that one out.
Those pics (with silver bark) look like white oak. Pin oak is in the red oak family and would have leaves with sharp points. I'm on my fone so maybe I'm not getting a good look...

I guess I'd bribe the town by telling them to just drop the trees and I'll haul off the wood no cost. 'Specially if it was ok for shoulder season wood.... Listen, this is my thread darn it! I just talked to the neighbor and she didn’t even know about it. She said they knew those trees were a problem. I told her my only concern is someone getting hurt and she might be responsible for it. She agreed and is going to talk to her husband. I told them if they can get the trees down they can put them on my land and I could get rid of them.
