Of course, towing mpg doesn't matter if you tow 500 miles per year...
We often tow 700 miles per trip

I agree. And this is spot on.
The kids are buying diesel trucks now to be cool... and a lot of guys are not towing anything. Mostly not even hauling anything in the bed.

Yes it's America. You can drive anything you want, but it's driving up the cost of diesels for the guys that actually use a diesel truck.

Maybe for you ford and chevy guys...
    :p

    Nah I'm just funning ya...

Yes reliability is a big concern, but most of the issues are being caused by the emissions equipment. (Fords egr coolers come to mind here)

right now diesel and gas are the same price around my place. and a few months back diesel was cheaper than 87 octane gas. Regular maintenance on the diesel is more costly than a gasser. I have a shoebox that I run around with 90% of the time. The truck gets used for heavy chores.

The more diesels that get sold, the cheaper and more available the parts are and the more shops that can service them well.

Now the selling price on the other hand... might not be connected with costs. But I think they are since the emissions bolt on crap have noticeably cut into the quality of the basic engine itself. If it was still a commercial grade International block who knows what they would be charging.

Wow. Diesel is still about fifty cents a gallon more here.

I just did oil changes on my 7.3, and my Cadillac this past weekend. Caddy was $30, truck was $70.

Just replaced my 2016 Ram 2500 5.7L Hemi MegaCab work truck with a 2020 6.7L 2500 MegaCab. Instantly went from about under 10 MPG to over 20. Just came back from a two week work trip where I put on over 4000 miles towing a single axle 16' work boat trailer. I averaged under 10 MPG with the Hemi. So looking forward to putting some miles on the Cummins.

Right now in Northern California, diesel is about the same as gas. Cheaper stations will have cheap gas, chevron diesel is cheaper. Maintenance is more expensive, but after 5000 miles of towing with my 7.3 psd super duty, I’m definitely pleased with the abilities. I sold off my daily driver mazda wagon and decided I would just ride my two dual sports to commute. Part of me still misses my old 300 inline six f150. But the f250 crew cab is so much more space, more payload, just more comfortable and lifted on 35”s, no worries about getting high centered. Plus the value of the obs is ridiculous, made sense to go 7.3.

Ok you lug nuts. There's a new kid on the block. And....... it's a GASSER! :bug:

The all new (GM F-150 look alike) Tundra.
And its boasting "diesel like" torque out of a twin turbo gas/electric hybrid.

Now...you guys know I'm a diesel guy (and a turbo guy)...
...BUT!! I also know that dc electric traction motors are what moves our locomotives... and electric motor torque ...is AWESOME!!

So... here's what Toyota says about their new v6 TT hybrid

hybrid option that uses the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter v-6 engine. Dubbed the i-FORCE MAX by Toyota, the hybrid powertrain is rated for 437 horsepower and 583-pound feet of torque

(The base twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6, called i-FORCE in Toyota vernacular, is rated for 389 horsepower and 479-pound-feet of torque.)

Looks like the electric motor/hybrid adds 104 pound feet of torque to the base 479 pft of tq.

    But!

Max towing drops 550 # due to the additional weight of 475 # for the hybrid.

Toyota is also boasting 19mpg combined mileage.

"fuel economy. The conventional twin-turbo V6-powered 2022 Tundra (2wd) has earned EPA fuel economy estimates of 18 mpg city, 23 highway and 20 combined. That’s about a third better than the outgoing v-8 truck, which returned 13, 17, and 15 mpg in the same metrics. The four-wheel-drive version is rated at 17 in city driving, 22 on the highway and 19 combined"

(Thats about the same as my old dodge:rolleyes:)
    (The Ram EcoDiesel claims 29mpg (4wd) and 32mpg on a (2wd))

    What say you?

    Yeah.

I didn't see any pricing, but i suspect the real truck guys will stick with the "big 3"
    HD truck brands.
Half ton diesels aren't setting the world on fire, thats for sure. Ford has already dropped their half ton diesel option.
