This was growing across the street from where i worked the last couple days. Looks to have been planted there. I later saw the same tree in their yard as well. Got me. Some type of ornamental? IMG_5742.JPG IMG_5743.JPG IMG_5744.JPG IMG_5745.JPG

Yeah, that's not an American species of beech. Also it's appears to have bark disease. Otherwise, beech bark is smooth.

It appears to be something worth value, at least from the bark. If there's leaves, that's a dead give away.

If it's easy to get, or on my way, I'll cut and process basswood. It just doesn't last long once burning

Basswood for sure. I recognize the big leaves and the round seeds. Never heard anyone calling them an ornamental, but I guess so. I just find trees with double the BTU like sugar maple to make me view them as much prettier.

Those have more BTU's than bass wood as they usually gave some grease left in them from the pizza.

The Picture This app says Linden and that was my guess before I opened the app. Its very light and easy to split. Haven't burned any yet though but it feels it will burn fast.

Dont know if ornamental was the correct term, but it was planted in the yard on purpose. I didnt know they were planted as yard trees. First time that im aware of ive seen one planted as such.

It's only light once seasoned. When it's fresh cut from living/green, it's full of water and HEAVY

Same here. First time i cut any i didnt know what it was. CSS and when dry it was so light. Gave it to my stepdaughter and she loved burning it in their fireplace.

I have about a half cord SS in the woods on the trail here from January. Top covered and ill bet its ready.
