I can't get the 55 to run right

First off it has set for a while and I couldn't get it started, pull the plug there was no gas in there, dribbled a little bit into the cylinder and got its started, yes I had it choked and pulled it about 20 times
It's inconsistent RPM's are up and down whether it is in wood or out of wood.
It will run right for a bit and then start dogin out.
I am pretty green when it comes to working on chainsaws, but I managed to get my other saws tuned good
Can't get it tuned, it still has the little wings on the screws, the screws only turn like a half of a turn
any guesses?

 

Sounds like carb rebuild time. Maybe trash in the strainer in carb..maybe bad diaphrams??

 

You might want to have a look at the impluse grommet, if dried out or cracked replace it! HVA part # 505 31 07-51. New carb HVA # 503 28 15-04 $72.

 

I could do that if I knew where the impulse gasket was to look at it
so what does a new carb cost?

yeah I figured I would have to do that I did download one when I got the saw.
Not sure if Jon replace that or not I will have to look in my files
I guess it's time to start learning some more here do some studying

 

Also the fuel line if split or deteroriated can cause erratic running conditions.

But its a line not really a gasket. But dont know every thing about your saw either.

 

fuel line was replaced before I got the saw, a few months ago

 

I didn't do a whole lot to that saw, it was mostly a janitorial project. I did replace the fuel line, but that and the .325 rim sprocket were the only new parts I added.

Carb rebuilds, if that's what it needs, aren't hard, and the kit is probably $10 or so.

Yep. My memory's a little fuzzy, but I don't think the 55 even has an impulse line.

 

Yea check and replace what the experts said. And hes carb rebuilds on these are simple. Its usually harder to get the carb off than the rebuild.

 

How long ago was the line put on and do you use ethanol fuel? (I'm sure its an ethanol rated line though and even if you do its probably good for years.)

The fuel does have ethanol in it 'I always put sta bil in

 

Stabil does not eliminate the effects of the ethanol, it just keeps it from going bad as fast. Ethanol still eats some types of rubber with stabil as well as ethonol is a moisture sponge....maybe the stability helps this a bit but I am not sure I'm not ip on all that stabil does.

If there were more than one part based on carb brand I think it would specify this part w/zama carb this past w/walbro etc. I did not open the attachment to check myself sorry. It may of only come with that carb....but I'm no rancher expert​

 

As long as you are going to replace the impulse grommit you might as well replace the part right next to it 503 16 16-02.

 

And be careful when putting the carb back on IT IS VERY EASY TO STRIP OUT THE PLASTIC!!!! Given that you should also check out the plastic partition to make sure it is not already stripped out causing the carb not to seal and causing you problems!
