Dam Steve, I'm sorry to hear that! Several years ago I had my 290 farm boss stolen out of the bed of my pick up, so I feel for you. About a year after, it happened again and it was my 200T . Never seen them again, I had no serial numbers written down, MY fault. Best of Luck my friend, I hope you get them back.
The guy has been stealing whatever he thinks he can sell. Kind of obvious here at my place with piles of wood for sale that there might be a chainsaw or 20 sitting around. I'm right along a main road with lots of traffic so the guy was pretty brazen to do it broad daylight.
A "Thief" of opportunity! The dude needs a serious A$$ Whooooooooping from some hard working folks like us, I'll bet he wouldn't do it again! God, I hope you get your saws back. I actually drove to the 4 area pawn shops around here and left word to call if a saw came in. Nothing...
Keep an eye open because they will probably let him go because of overcrowding or COVID or who knows what else.
Talked to the Stihl shop people yesterday. They had a license plate # of the car and cops know who the owner is. The owner is a female and has a facebook page. I looked her up and showed Mrs. FS some pics and she says that her and a guy in some of the pics are the ones that tried to sell her the leaf blower. They found the blower at a pawn shop in Baltimore 50 miles away. I know where she lives but the scumbag guy doesn't have a good address on file. I'm restraining myself at this point and letting the State Police work on this.
Hmmm. I wonder if he went to Baltimore to sell the blower 50 miles away if he’d try to sell the saws in the same area... I’m going to write my serial numbers down today because of this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I went out and took the air filter covers off, clean out any oils with alcohol for a good surface and wrote my last name in a permanent sharpie marker on the "Inside" of the cover. If your smart enough to look in there, well...
Yeah, rubbing alcohol will take permanent marker off lots of items... I think if i were to mark a saw, I would go for several places, especially ones not easily seen, so that hopefully at least one mark couldn't be found and destroyed/replaced.....
Just driving down the road with a bed or trailer full of wood with saws placed visibly on or sticking up out of the load is enough to get saws noticed. One of many detestable qualities of a thief is they are very observant.
Now, I'm gonna heat up the end of a 6011 welding rod with a propane torch and do it over the permanent marker, NOW it's burned into the plastic!!! It ain't coming out unless you completely replace the cover. I'm also going to do it on 3 other spots of plastic, HIGHLY visible!!! I did write the serial numbers down. Reading this post made me think of just how PI$$ED I was. I always keep my saws under lock and key and DON'T leave them in my truck bed.
Not sure and maybe huskihl can answer this but I read/ heard the serial # on Stihl saws is stamped somewhere on the crankcase where it is not visible unless you tear the saw down.
