Work is out of control and i missed my late winter early spring splitting and stacking..... making up for lost time before i lose ALL The daylight....
Yep, same here, I finally just said enough & cut back on how many jobs we're taking in. I'm a workaholic by nature anyway, but at some I wanna do other stuff.
There was a thread last year (I think) about splitting in the dark, I did it a few times and really enjoyed it. Planning on doing it again later this fall and winter. Thanks to you people I have plenty of wood to get through this winter, so it will be splitting the stuff I dragged in this summer for future years. Helps take the pressure off of getting stuff done yet this fall
Always good to stay ahead. I'm already trying to line up new wood that'll replace what I expect to be burning this coming heating season. Pre-split and stacked wood. I like to call "inventory". I have about 1.5 cord of inventory onsite. I burn between 3 and 4 cord each year. So, I'm looking for another 2cord of inventory. Once on tbe 3yr plan, stay there.
The days are definitely getting shorter. Next week is the fall equinox. Then night time starts being longer than daytime. Then average temperatures start dropping a bit faster.
Yes sir, did you see the change in the 7 day forecast? Last week they were talking high 80's next Weds on. Now high 60's. Much better!
What are you going to do with the bark? Any debris I get from splitting activities I sweep up and toss into a 44 gallon garbage can. Then when full I'll run it through the wood chipper and mix it into the newest compost pile along with kitchen scraps. I've never split in the dark but it looks super fun. Nice ash!
