I've had goose. Raised in the back yard on weeds the best parts of the lawn and some feed, plus whatever the little beggars could snag as "pets". Tasted kinda like dark turkey meat. Unfortunately, because they were "pets" some of them you knew which one it was. Not terribly appetizing.
Lady down the street stopped and asked for some tomatoes from my garden and then wanted some peppers when she noticed those. She came back a few hours later with tomato soup and two chorizo and pepper and onion sandwiches. They way she pronounced chorizo is common with those with an Acores background. I'm not a fan of tomato soup and this was actually pretty good home made soup, but the sandwiches were pretty good. I hope she's not single looking not to be though and just being neighborly.

Did some sawing for dad today. His neighbor had a walnut fall and I decided to take the ash down while I was there.

Was only there for about 2-2.5 hours. The XS365sp made quick work of it.

Maybe youse guys have better glue up there in cannuck land.

I built a shed and used OSB for floors walls and roof. Primed and painted walls; covered roof the same day.

That was just a tick over 20 years ago. And it is in no shape to brag about. I have repainted that same shed three times over the last two decades and re-roofed it once. :picard:

Maybe my snow level is too deep here...........

I'm on the road on Nevada right now, but I know I've got a few boxes, and few boxes of 20 gauge Remington slugs too. If you need them as well.

Yep. We'll be at our rental house in north lake Tahoe on the California side tomorrow.

Not loving the gas prices out here. They'll get even worse in Tahoe, so I'll fill up in Nevada before the last 300 miles. It's $5a gallon in Tahoe. Here and in Wyoming, I see they like to advertise 85 octane as regular unleaded. It's not. Regular unleaded is 87 octane and my truck isn't supposed to run on 85. So then you have to buy 88 at 3.88 a gallon. I did average 21 mpg with the ac on doing like 75-80 mph, so I can't be unhappy with that.

Açores is how you most often spell Azores in Portuguese. I'm so used to seeing it that way that I spell it "wrong". I did forget the diacritic mark under the ç though. That might help in a search. It's pronounced pretty much the same way though. :)

Oh, no new furry friend from this trip. Our hands are full with this guy. 20210831_111235(1).jpg

He's doing well in the truck. He has a little more than half of the back cab of my supercrew to himself.

The fires at Tahoe are in south lake Tahoe and don't seem to be affecting anything where we are.
Air quality the last few days has been better at the rental cabin than at our house in Wisconsin.
Up until last Monday we were not sure if the trip was still on as the VRBO we went through was giving everyone full refunds that had places booked through Sept 6th. There were mandatory evacuations 14 miles to the south, but they got that fire under wraps asap. Big $$$ in Tahoe, they wouldn't let a fire destroy their $$$$$ "cabins" .

Sorry that your Grandma took a fall! Bruised ribs are quite painful. And hitting a moose, yikes! I hope your catastrophes are at an end.

They say it's come a long way, they also say some is better quality than others. I guess that's true. I was never a big fan of the stuff myself and have been against it in may arguments, but I have to admit I've seen some of it last a lot longer than I'd have thought. I actually read an article from somewhere down south that said plywood roof decking (3/8") has a tendacy to delaminate prematurely in that region and they recommend OSB instead. I'll agree with this much, it has the advantage of being able to use small diameter trees, which is a big advantage forestry wise, especially in a place like here where we get a good number of tall, but thin trees. (Although we don't have a sheet material facility on the island. we do have stick lumber mills).

I guess it's all relative, mom's boyfriend was saying not long ago, submerge a piece of it in water, and a piece of plywood and see which one comes apart first. My response, then put a solid plank in the water as well. If it's being clad in modern siding and roofing materials in a timely manner, it theoretically should never see any moisture worth talking about. Neither one is designed to be used as an exterior finish, so you can't expect it to last forever if you do use it as such. Pressure treated plywood is a little different story of course. Plywood definitely looks better though, especially if you add battens to it for cosmetic effect.

On that note, I removed most of the plywood from my house skirt last night, which I'm getting ready to replace entirely. It's been on there for at least 25 years, exactly how much longer than that I don't know. It's definitely shot. The solid planks behind, except for right at the bottom, seem mostly good enough to reuse for some other project, maybe the small storage shed I've been wanting, but I'm not trying to reuse it for the house. Just going to frame out a new structure and clad it in vinyl.
