The usual "brown and serve" sausages we sometimes get jumped from $1.09/$1.19 to $1.49. Cans of some things that have been $0.99 for a long time are now $1.19. I really don't think this "temporary inflation" is going to be any more temporary than some of the recent 20 year old temporary tax increases.
In addition to weed competition, I would also think the sun exposure dries out the soil faster stunting the corn growth. Random memory: my parents grew up on farms and warned me about going in corn fields because I might get lost. SD corn fields can be massive and you might come out in a different county.
Some corn gets a pretty good dose of nitrogen. I don't imagine they try too hard to get the last row.
I usually get 2-3 full pork loins for smoking and roasts. Could get them for around $1.68/lb, lowest price I've seen this year is $2.08/lb. Store sausage (very good) often $3.58 - $3.99 per lb.. today $4.99/ lb I don't see prices dropping, guess it's our new "reality".
We usually shop the sales and stock up. I saw an add for a local store that had chicken leg quarters for $.99/lb. Good thing I like chicken.
But when you took the neighbor girl into the corn field you had to go several rows in before you kissed her between the ears.
Random observations eh? 1) At work I’m only as good as the last thing I made or did. 2) At home I’m only as good as the last thing I said I was going to do and forgot about.
Deer chili made from chunked up meat is sooooo much better than from the same meat ground up, unfortunately. Grinding is easier but I chunk it up.
I don't think inflation is temporary, my opinion for what its worth is, they have produced food, meat, what ever for years, this ''virus'' thing stopped a lot of production of goods, so, now ''they'' have to make up for money lost. Now, there are shortages of a lot of things, from food, clothing, etc, etc. Ammunition is a good example, i've said this in the past, and i'll stand by it now. When they get the prices of ammunition where the companies want it, you will see lots of it on the shelves, its starting to show up more and more now. And, the prices are going up as they have more in stock, then, it will stay at a price you ''can'' afford, but, it'll be more of a luxury instead. Just my personal opinion.
