Nice and neat, just the way I like it.... You made a lot of progress with your firewood hoarding I see...
Unfortunately no. I guess it's the next best thing in that he's about the best possible neighbor one could ask for. He likes my wood stacks and he gives me his old tarps from his trailer when he gets new ones. One heck of a nice good guy.
Once you have enough wood that it starts to wrap around the house, they give up, when you have a winter like last year and your wood supply can handle it, they get rid of your/mine dog house.
What does anyone know about Bradford Pear? From what I've researched it dries fairly quick, burns hot, but doesn't last long. I split what we had from the tree that was dropped so I have a ton. It splits easy but not well if that makes sense. It's like it has no grain to it. Even if you hit it dead center the split gets wider on one side at the bottom. Hope it's decent to burn because the tree was big and I have a lot..
You have a lot of open space there viewable from anywhere from the road. The new carport that Sean put up looks really neat and provides good cover for wood or any other item you prefer not to have rained on. Just a consideration. Glad you got the pear all cut down. That tree lived a good life, but those multiple trunks set its fate. Enjoy the hot fires from it.
Normally the best thing to remember is that a tree that bears fruit or nuts usually makes excellent firewood. There are few exceptions. We have not burned any pear here but have seen on the forums many times that people do like the pear wood. I like your place!
Does your wife like to be warm? If so those crazy wood thoughts will soon become damm good ideas. Mine is now helping stack wood. She loves warming up next to the stove in the winter. She used to complain about me being gone all day cutting wood. Now I hear no complaints. We both enjoy wood heat. You have a nice, close to the house, place to store wood.
I have been using it for the smoker. The ribs came out great! It makes some ugly splits. It feels dense so I imagine it would be good firewood.
Wow it dries fast. Picked up a split from the part that came down four weeks ago in a severe storm and it was lighter than one that was smaller that I split yesterday. I still have a little more to split and I may put it on a scale first. On a side note, a lot of the wood I pick up from my father in law is ash that is 4 years CSS. Still reads 19% on the mm - some of the stuff I got in my last scrounge was ash still in rounds and freshly split it measured 19%. He didn't keep it covered but the oak I got from him in the same stack was also 19%. Odd..lol.. Maybe 19 is my number. His splits were long so I cut them off and the shorts measure around 16%.
Drvn, with so many 19% coming up it begs the question as to if you are getting the correct readings. It is very unusual for sure. It can certainly make a big difference how you stick those prongs in; can't just do it any old way as there is a specific way to use it.
