Well I made my last trip yesterday with the BIL for his firewood. We cut down 2 more spruce trees. I remember to take my camera this time and got a few pictures to share. These three spruce trees are there for the taking but on this trip we only took one of them. The smallest of the three. On this pic you can see where I felled the tree. The stump. I always like to look at the stump so I can criticize my work. For me it is just good practice. The second tree we felled. It had a pretty good lean and was starting to show signs of rot on the inside. We took it anyways. Last but not least. The trailer loaded up and it was time for something to drink and a cigar.
Oh I had one pic I was going to show. These are the saws I took on this trip for cutting. Poulan 475 is the big one and is 77 cc. The Stihl MS 460 and a Poulan 335 which is 54 cc I used that for all the limbing.
No it is the tops of the mountains that is above the tree line. But it usually does have snow all the way up and in to Aug and then slowly starts to disappear. Will not be long and it will be snowing again up there. Called Snowy Range.
Is that in Medicine Bow national forest? I used to go camping out there a lot. Beautiful country. Nice load of spruce!
Yes that is still part of Medicine bow national forest. We have wood cutting permits for certain parts of Medicine bow. It is pretty high there which makes it a little tougher.
I too would have a cigar once all the wood was loaded and I as on my way back home with it. Of course, I didn't have as far to drive as you but the cigar was still good!
Thanks for taking the pictures always interesting to see different terrain from other areas.... Nice load of logs....
I made 3 trips this year with my brother in law so he will have a enough firewood to get through winter. On each trip we tried to get at least 2 trees. So in that one area there in the pictures I cut down 6 trees this year. I also go up for myself to a different area for lodge pole pine and smaller trees so I can handle them myself. I have probably cut down around 32 trees this year. All dead stuff.
Thank you for the pics, that certainly is beautiful country! I admire your diligence in traveling that far for firewood. I forget sometimes when, in my area there are trees everywhere for the taking. May I ask why not a bigger load?
Probably has to come through Laramie heading east. That will test the power and overall condition of any vehicle. I came up that hill yesterday pulling my camper. First time the temperature gauge has ever started climbing on my 7.3 power stroke.
