Fried up some searobins and fluke that my BIL caught on saturday. Little bit of Louisiana fish fry "nawlins style" mixed with some cajun two step then some beer to thicken the batter. Dang that's good stuff. Washed it down with some bourbon :usa:.

I’ll say this… my dad would never keep or eat blue fish… let alone searobbins, but you make ‘em look tasty. :salute:

I have heard that sea-robins are very tasty , if I am not mistaken they say that they taste like lobster due to their diet that consists of a lot of shellfish since they are bottom dwellers.

I remember as a kid we would catch they by the dozens while vacationing on Cape Cod. Still get them occasionally now but not like years ago.
Maybe next time I catch one I will give it a try ?

Eric VW my dad always ate bluefish and he would just cook em skin on with some butter, lemon and pepper. I couldn't stomach it that way but I do like them smoked. I decided to try searobins a few years back after someone told me how good they were. Wish i hadn't thrown so many back now haha.

buzz-saw they're a nice meaty texture. Not a very fishy taste either. I'd say it's a cross between fluke and seabass. It takes a few trys to learn how to filet them but after you get the hang of it it's easy. They're little rib cage sticks out and you have to carefully cut around it and try to avoid the tiny needle like bones. My advice is to only keep the big ones.

    Thanks ^^^

I don't mind bluefish as long as they are on the smaller side and treated properly when they are caught. If you clean them as soon as caught and immediately put on ice then I am OK with that , I think a lot of the reason they get a bad rap is people catch them and don't clean them and leave them just sitting out in the open. I can't tell you the number of times I have walked the beach and saw people with blues they had caught just sitting out on the sand. That's not the fish I want to eat !

Oh yea, little snapper blues are definitely better than the big guys. We always bleed them as soon as they're off the hook then right on ice

Ha! Good stuff. If Smokinpiney says SR’s are good, I’d try ‘em. Like I had said about my dad refusing to eat bluefish, once we got old enough to break down those family-thought driven barriers, that fish was quite tasty.
