Helping out w/ Tornado Cleanup & Some Firewood

Most of you are probably aware of the crazy weather in the NE area due to hurricane Ida slamming into a cold front which created some tornados' in south jersey last week. These area's got devastated and many people lost their homes, businesses, etc... My brother in law lives in the area and very fortunate his home was spared with only minor damage. We teamed up with his local church to help out the community that was hit badly from these tornado's. Much credit to him, he's been helping for days since it happened.

Dennis Backwoods Savage I'd like to say the legendary Backwood Savage MS290 was a huge help in aiding some fine folks who needed a lot of help cleaning up their homes. That saw all the way from Michigan was down in South Jersey helping out. My brother in law and I did the chopping while the members of the church community did the moving, stacking and raking. We left the bigger stuff for the bigger machinery but did what we could. This elderly and very fine gentleman lived their with his wife, his house for the most part was sparred with the exception of some flashing and siding missing and a branch through the barn roof. He was extremely grateful for all the help and assistance.

Wellacrest farms one of the largest in S.Jersey for milk production was hit really bad. But out of 800 cows only 3 perished. You can see in the distance the roof was torn off the barn.

I wasn't prepared to haul wood as many roads were closed and required walking equipment in so I didn't bring the trailer, but the one road opened up and I was able to return afterward to get a small load just in the pickup truck which I was out splitting and stacking yesterday a bit. I recently got a bigger trailer to haul wood around the property and boy what a huge difference it made with the workload. Only took 2 trips using "big blue" vs. about 12 trips using my smaller gorilla cart to unload my truck bed.
My splitting setup improved as well heeding the advice of many, bring the splitter to where your stacking. I did just that and used my gorilla cart kinda as a catch/table loaded her up with splits and pulled a few feet away and stacked in the wood shed.

 

Good for you with helping those in need.

Any wood you end up, is a bonus.

 

I've learned many moons ago how much better giving feels than receiving. One of the most valuable things you can give, IMO, is your time. Kudos!

 

Felt really nice to help this fella out, he has a ton of work to do along with so many other folks. Hopefully more assistance is coming his way!

The saw is serving me very well and felt really nice using it to pay it forward to help someone out like you did me. Kept thinking of you while cutting.....

I loaded up with mostly white oak but I did throw some beech in. At first I didn't know what it was and never burned any of it. There will be a lot of wood available for quite some time out that way.

 

Great job helping others out. That's the name of the game. If only we could get more people to pay it foward like you......

 

All the above, Great job Chuck!!! FHC is proud of ya! Now grab all that Beech you can get, same heat as Oak & dries way faster. Leave no Beech behind.

I remember that saw at Well Seasoned GTG. Dennis had shown up and he and WeldrDave were chatting, they almost forgot it!! I remember only because Dennis was trying to be sneaky about crossing border with it with out telling anyone

Yes grab the beech, you wont be disappointed.

Ive seen what tornadoes can do having had two hit not far from me in May 2018 and August of last year. Not big ones (EF0/EF1) but being densely populated with lots of trees they sure make a mess. Im still finding wood from last years storm.
