awesome news. I take it you dont like making firewood the buZZsaw way! Its okay Joe, no hard feelings here!
Good news you finally got the tractor back! Long delays on parts are getting to be the norm sadly. Even automotive stuff is pretty hit or miss at times.
With finally having the tractor back, I set my goals on getting this area cleaned up and trying to get some organization back. I would love to have this whole area cleaned up before school starts up again but time and rain will tell. Got a decent amount moved today.
I got all of the logs moved and stacked up nicely along the property line. They take up so much less space when stacked compared to dumped from the truck. I have a guy coming to pick up all the stump cutoffs…please don’t take my FHC card for giving wood away but they just aren’t worth my time at this point.
Great feeling getting things organized. Kinda glad I put the kabosh on the fella's randomly dropping loads here. To much random stuff. Good call on gifting/scrapping the stumpy/crotchy stuff! I agree 100% it just isn't worth the effort. I will be having a rather oversize early winter bonfire to happily dispose of a bunch of the same. I actually have a guy who is installing a OWB..... Maybe he will take some first. Hmmmm. I hope
I have two guys taking this stuff. One is a guy who just likes to break them down for his stove and the other has an owb.
Cant blame you unless you had customers. Have you ever tried selling them as is rather than give them away? Dont you have an OWB or get enough without having to touch those? I have one customer for shorts/nuggets. Buys a cord yearly. I can usually sell a half cord or two on CL as well.
Yes I have an owb but I already have plenty of uglies under cover. I usually process most of them but this spring the loads came in so fast and then8 weeks without the tractor and I had to cherry pick around them so I ended up with so many that I just wanted to get rid of them. There are some guys around here with owb’s and I’ve sold to a couple through the years but it’s hard enough just giving these away.
Yep, I've got a few piles of those too, nobody wants them & there's just too much time in trying to make them into anything that even resembles firewood.
Shorts and uglies - go into Ibc bins, get used when home or shoulder seasons rather than stuffing a long load. I have a lot of this at present. marginal or punky ect goes on the burn pile. splitter trash gets saved for starters. Dry rot stuff- sometimes that makes good starter sticks.
As the summer comes to an end so does my daily wood processing. Because I have more wood than ever and due to my kids busy fall schedules, I started deliveries about 2-2.5 weeks ago. I have already delivered 43 cords so far and have 43 more on order (the plan of starting deliveries earlier was to alleviate being so far behind all fall…so much for that!). I raised my prices by $20 per cord for returning customers and by $40 per cord for new customers. Only one new customer said no thanks and I haven’t heard any complaints from the returning ones. It’s going be be a very busy fall to say the least.
FWIW Joe, don't feel alone. I just a call from the resort down the road, they wish to purchase all their campfire wood from me next year. 150 seasonal trailers in there. Like an idiot I said sure no problem.
Yea no kidding on the help! I'll provide them with good dry hardwood, they're quite wealthy & don't like smokey campfires. Too many people in a small area. They'll pay whatever I charge as long as it's good stuff.
