Hello Not a big deal but I thought I would try one just to see how it works. It has two memory banks for storing the last two measurements. Also can show metric or US units of inches & feet. You can also set it to stop measuring on the left side or the right side. In the example below, I measured the width of my roll around cart’s table top which is 18-3/16 inches or 1’ 6-3/16 inches. Any comments? Pic 1 - table top width measurement Pic 2 - close up of results
I had a kid that bought one for siding. It worked ok, but not on rough surfaces. I taught him how to read a tape and it is probably in one of my tool trailers. As a builder, I can't think of a use for one that a good ol' fashioned tape won't handle. Only gadgets I really keep are the lazers for work.
We have a non contact "measuring tape" at work (laser I think?) I find the main place that it's handy is for long runs where the tape is too short to do it all in one shot, or you would need help to hold the tape in place. We honestly don't use it much...one of those things that sounds great, but then turns out meh...
I have a laser one I use for measuring warehouses at work. I've never measured how accurate it is, but I mostly just need it for column lines and ceiling heights (30'-60' range). Being off a couple inches is no big deal.
Same here, it is close enough for column to column, floor to ceiling and even measuring joint or truss sizes.
I have a Bosch laser one and was using it as much as possible during my wraparound front porch build from the ground up. Just to see how it worked in real life. Working alone without someone to hold the other end or trying to stiff leg a tape across a span was the best advantages. Surprisingly, it’s more accurate at 1/16” +- than I am with my tape measure! It took me a while to trust it and I still would verify occasionally. It also measures area in square feet, cubic feet, and the height of a wall using two measurements for the triangle math. I could see it being handy for measuring in places that you couldn't actually see the tape. Underneath, inside ect. Stretch it out, store the dimension and pull it out and read it. Otherwise I think it would sit until the batteries leaked.
I'm using a DEWALT laser and its meseasure's accurate. Even I have another bunch of DeWalt and Bosch tools, Both are reliable to use.
