Yep you are correct Dennis. There has already been snow here in some parts of Wyoming. When I went up to snowy range back in July there was still spots of snow drifts in the shade.

That is a piece of cottonwood that I scrounged this year back in May. I have a utility trailer that I put a winch on the front of it and I winched that piece up into the trailer.
I will cut it up and it will become firewood. I took it out of the trailer with the tractor and a chain.

I've done Route 80 coast to coast a few times so when anyone who lives near that route posts pics (especially past the heartland) I try to remember how different it is along that route.

So I found a picture my wife took from my trip this year at the early part of Aug. This was up toward Snowy Range.
That was a big Spruce tree we took down. Those logs are 7 foot long on the trailer.

Great dedication Mag Craft! Most of my wood besides my own land comes from neighbors on 1.5 miles road :emb:

Well when you're driving that 100 miles past nothing but little tufts of grass sticking out of rocks or mile after mile of nothing but corn, 100 miles for firewood might seem like today's task. If you're driving past mile after mile of nth generation forest more than a couple miles doesn't make a lot of sense.
I have followed the signs to Wall Drug so distance can have interesting perspectives .

Yea that is the brother in law's truck also. It is the cummings with a stick shift. I have seen him haul a backhoe on that trailer and truck.
Although when we were coming down the mountain he told me that he could sure feel the load on it.

Yep things are so spread out here that after while driving 50 or 60 miles just does not seem like much. For instance I am going to be playing at a place up in Chugwater next month. It is about 70 miles away but I do not even give a second thought. I guess it is what you get used to.

Born and raised in the area its the norm for a densely populated state. Small state syndrome as jo191145 has called it. I drive 100 miles and im two states over into Vermont. Anywhere in state is an hours drive mostly. Maybe someday ill make it out there and see the wide open spaces for myself.
