Even modern noncats are noticeably less efficient than a good cat stove. Part of that is the cat stove’s ability to run at steady output instead of peaks and valleys.

Of course, there are trade offs which is why I have one of each.

I went with the baby of the family by Woodstock and I haven't regretted it in the slightest.
Canadian border VT going from 11 cords to 4.5 is nuts- is that like a 60% decrease in wood consumption on top of a warmer home? These remind me of the posts I read by Dennis on the other forum years ago. Got me interested in the Fireview and all that cat technology and blah blah blah here we are today.

While I have a much smaller stove, the ash drawer I have is great. And the heat distribution off the stove & through the house is really good through the dead of winter. The hybrid stove design is just genius in my opinion, and that's the way I went. Good luck to you and let us know what you do.

Yup RGrant love stove! I had no idea how to get on 3 year plan with young kids and needing 35 cord. :bug:

oldspark personally I would get soapstone as 5 years in all soapstone lining is still in great shape.
Andirons, I don’t use, I just load stove front to back and nothing rolls forward. Ash pan is a great decision you won’t regret it!

I agree 100% I have an Ideal Steel I bought in 2015. Other than the one defect (tear in the steel by the top door hindge which Woodstock has addressed and fixed in new stoves; as well as repaired free of charge in old stoves) I haven't had any issues.

I got the soap stone lining and it's still in great shape. I didn't get the ash pan and wish I would have as I've heard nothing but great things about it... I too have the andirons and don't really use them either.

Great heater in my opinion and a great company who stands behind their products and takes care of their customers.

I ordered one, a few people I know think I am crazy but not much I can do about that.
Many of the posts in this thread were very helpful making the decision much easier.
    Thank You

Should be interesting to follow your updates. Did you get a tentative delivery timeframe?

I'm interested in this because I have a Nashua myself. I don't know what one it is although it has a 8" flue.
I personally like it but using half the wood is hard to ignore.

I should add that its a family house and I was a kid when it was put in. So it has a lot of sentimental value to me.

Soapstone in firebox and ashpan, 3 top burner plates, andirons (if i dont use them no biggie).
Advice from the forum and Woodstock helped with those choices.

I've got the small Woodstock Stove and a buddy of mine with a much larger home with one of those rooms that goes up 2 stories with a loft has a Jotul 500 something or other. He said in passing if he had to do it all over again he'd get my stove.
I don't think that catalyst technology can be beat.

Wont be half the stove you used to run, will probably be twice the stove you used to run.

I hope it satisfies you! I’ve followed your journey from the beginning. The Summit was at the top of my list before I bought my Princess, would still like to try one some day.

I ordered an IS. It was my first choice. The $800 shipping to California along with my pals being less than enthusiastic about helping me install a 700 lb stove, I went with a BK Sirocco 30.2 delivered for the same price.
